Troubleshooting Printhead Problems on the Dell AIO V313, V313w, V515w, V715w, P513w and P713W Printers

1:


  Printhead Error Messages  


 Note:
  • BEFORE YOU TROUBLESHOOT: Make sure your printer has the latest Dell firmware installed, for more information refer to Dell Knowledge Base article Download and Install the Dell Printer Firmware
  • These troubleshooting steps are to help resolve Printhead error messages such as:
    • There is a problem with the Printhead. Press the Help.
    • There is a problem with the Printhead. Please consult User’s Guide.”
    • Unsupported Printhead.
  1. Open the cover to remove the Printhead and ink cartridges (if installed).
     Note:
    Carrier will come to the center automatically with the error, "The cover is open".



  2. Remove the tanks (if installed) and place on a table, for more information refer to the Removing and Reinserting (Reseat) the Ink Cartridges section.



  3. Open Printhead latch and remove the Printhead, for more information refer to the Removing and Reinserting (Reseat) the Printhead section.



  4. Close the Printhead latch, close the printer cover, and confirm the error message no longer shows on the operator panel, if the issue persist, Contact Technical Support.



  5. Open the cover, open the latch, and insert the Printhead only.



  6. Firmly push down on Printhead then close the latch and cover.



  7. If the message no longer shows on the operator panel, continue with normal installation steps for the ink cartridges, if the issue persist, continue to the next steps.



  8. Open the cover, open the latch, remove and re-install the Printhead, close the latch and install the ink cartridges firmly.



  9. Close the cover, if the issue persist, Contact Technical Support.

  Printhead Missing Message  


 Note:
BEFORE YOU TROUBLESHOOT: Make sure your printer has the latest Dell firmware installed, for more information refer to Dell Knowledge Base article Download and Install the Dell Printer Firmware



If this message appears at the initial or Out Of the Box (OOB) install:
  1. RRemove and reseat the Printhead, for more information refer to the Removing and Reinserting (Reseat) the Printhead section.



  2. If the issue persist, Contact Technical Support.



When this message appears after the printer has been in use:
  1. RRemove the Printhead and wipe the contacts on the printer and Printhead (the latch will need to be lifted to remove the Printhead), for more information refer to the Resolving Printhead Errors by Cleaning the Printhead section.



  2. Reseat the Printhead.



  3. If the issue persist, Contact Technical Support.

  Check Ink Cartridge Levels  


The Dell All-in-One Inkjet printer has a Printhead tray that contains one black ink cartridge and one color ink cartridge. To check the ink level in the cartridges, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start.



  2. Click All Programs or Programs and select Dell Printers.



  3. Choose the printer from the drop-down list at the top of the window.



  4. Click the Maintenance tab and click Check Ink Levels.
    If the ink levels are low, contact Dell to purchase new inkjet cartridges.

  Removing and Reinserting (Reseat) the Ink Cartridges  


If the printer displays a cartridge missing error and the cartridge is present in the Printhead, attempt to reseat the cartridge to clear the error.
  1. Make sure the printer is on.



  2. Open the printer lid.

     Note:
    On printers with LCD screens there are instructions and pictures on how to remove and reinsert the ink cartridges, just follow the instruction presented on the LCD or follow the written instructions below. The use of a flashlight or very bright area is recommended for the process, to see the parts involved.


  3. Press the release tab at the back of the ink cartridge (Figure 1).

  4. Remove the ink cartridge from the print head



  5. Insert the ink cartridge. Using two hands, slide the front end of the cartridge into the Printhead, make sure the lip is in the correct position (Figure 2) and then press down on the back of the cartridge until you feel the cartridge click into place.

     Note:
    When inserting a new inkjet cartridge make sure all the packaging material has been removed, for more information refer to Dell Knowledge Base article New Cartridge Packaging Removal Process for the V313, V313w, V515w, V715w, P513w and P713W Printers.


  6. Close the printer.

6:


  Clean and Align the Printhead to  
  Resolve Fuzzyness, Streaks and Lines  


If the quality of printing is uneven or fuzzy or there are streaks and lines on the printed page, it may be necessary to clean the Printhead and align it properly. To perform these tasks, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start.



  2. Click All Programs or Programs and select Dell Printers.



  3. Choose the printer from the drop-down list at the top of the window.



  4. Click the Maintenance tab and click Deep Clean Cartridges. If necessary run the Deep Clean a second time.

    The Deep Clean process uses a significant amount of ink so it is not recommended to run it more than twice. 



  5. Click Align Cartridges.

  Resolving Printhead Errors by Cleaning the Printhead  


Notice:  
  Do not touch the Printhead nozzle (As shown in Figure 3) or the Printhead ink filter (Figure 4) as this may damage the Printhead.  

 Note:
For information on how to remove and reinsert the Printhead, refer to the Removing and Reinserting the Printhead section below.
  1. Clean the Printhead contacts and the back-side of the Printhead using a clean, lint-free cloth (Figure 3).

  Removing and Reinserting (Reseat) the Printhead  


Removing and reinserting the Printhead may be necessary to clean the Printhead or resolve a Printhead errors.

To remove and reinsert the Printhead, perform the following steps:
  1. Make sure the printer is on. On the control panel on the front of the printer, press the Setup   button, using the arrow buttons highlight Maintenance and press OK. Use the arrow buttons to select Replace Printhead and press OK.
     Note:
    On printers with LCD screens there are instructions and pictures on how to remove and reinsert the Printhead, just follow the instruction presented on the LCD or follow the written instructions below. The use of a flashlight or very bright area is recommended for the process, to see the parts involved.



  2. Press the release and lift the Printhead latch (Figure 5) .

  3. Grasp the sides of the Printhead tray and lift it out



  4. Reinsert the Printhead. Press the Printhead firmly into position in the Printhead tray.



  5. Close the Printhead latch, then close the printer.
