With some wireless universal serial bus (USB) keyboard/mouse combination units, the mouse may not be detected and does not function when running Dell Diagnostics. This is not a hardware failure but is caused by the way the wireless USB keyboard/mouse combination unit is detected by diagnostics. In this case, do not replace any hardware. Use the keyboard to navigate through the diagnostics.
To run the 32-bit Diagnostics from the system, perform the following steps:
- Press and hold the <Fn> key, and then press the power button to power the system on.
- Release both buttons. The preboot system assessment (PSA) diagnostics sequence begins. After approximately 30 seconds, the computer emits a number of alert tones and completes the PSA diagnostics. The tool then launches the 32-bit Diagnostics from the utility partition (if available).

If a test in the PSA diagnostics fails, an error code will be displayed and the computer will not be able to start the 32-bit Diagnostics. Make a note of the error code for later troubleshooting. |

- Select Run All Extended Tests.
If the Utility Partition is not available, browse to Drivers and Downloads. Select your system model or enter your Service Tag. Then, select your operating system and language from the drop-down menus. Click the + (plus sign) next to Diagnostics. Click the entry labeled Utility Partition. Follow the instructions to download the file.
You must have the proper diagnostics media for your specific system type. Depending on ship date, system model, and configuration, the diagnostics shipped with the system on a Dell Resource CD or System Software CD.
