This article discusses an issue in which a message prompts for the Sonic Update Manager CD-ROM when starting the computer. This article describes how to resolve this issue.

» Sonic Update Manager CD Prompt When the Computer Starts

When starting the computer, the following message appears in a Sonic Update Manager window:

The feature you are trying to use is on a CD-ROM or other removable disk that is not available.

Insert the 'Sonic Update Manager" disk and click OK.

This issue may be caused by program entries that are related to the Sonic Update Manager program.

To resolve this issue, use the following methods:

  • Download and apply a hotfix from Sonic. The file name of the hotfix is Isum_hotfix.exe.
  • Use the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility to remove entries that reference Sonic Update Manager.

» Download and Run the Sonic Isum_hotfix.exe File

  1. Open a Web browser such as Windows® Internet Explorer®, and then download the file isum_hotfix (.EXE).

  2. In the File Download - Security Warning window, click Run.

  3. In the Internet Explorer - Security Warning window, click Run.

  4. In the Sonic - ISUM Hotfix Setup window, click Yes to install the hotfix.

  5. When prompted to restart the computer, click Yes.

» Run the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

  1. Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open a Web browser such as Internet Explorer, and then browse to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base Article: "Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility" Article ID: 290301.
    2. Note:  
        For more information about the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility, see the Readme file information in the Contents of the Readme.txt file section of the article.  

    3. In the More Information section of the article, click Download the Windows Installer CleanUp package now.

    4. In the File Download - Security Warning window, click Run.

    5. In the Internet Explorer - Security Warning window, click Run.

    6. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility.

  2. Run the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. To do this, click Start, point to All Programs, and then click Windows Installer Clean Up.
