The Service Tag is an alphanumeric (contains both numbers and letters) code that acts like a serial number for the product to which it is attached. It can be found attached as a permanent label on every Dell computer and many other standalone Dell products. Service tags contain everything Dell needs to identify a system and its components as well as that product's warranty information. This allows for more effective troubleshooting and warranty support of Dell products.

The Express Service Code is a numeric (number only) version of the Service Tag provided to customers for quick access into Dell's phone support system. When calling Dell, using the Express Service Code allows customers to connect directly to the operator or technician queue for their product and shortens wait time.
