Computer memory is relatively easy to add or replace and is generally the first place to start when considering an upgrade for better and faster system performance.

To upgrade computer memory, follow the steps below.

Step 1:	Check your computer's current memory configuration.
1    Open the System Profiler by clicking here. 2     Click Yes, I do agree to start the tool. 3     Write down the Service Tag under General Information. 4     Click  Memory on the left side of the profiler window. 5     Count the memory slots listed (such as Memory Slot 1, Memory Slot 2). The number of entries tells you how many slots are being used. 6     Write down the amount of memory in each slot then add the memory amounts together to get the total amount of memory in the system. The number of slots being used and the amount of memory in each slot, is your memory configuration. Note:     Generally, Dell ships computers with a single memory module in one slot or two memory modules of equal size in two slots of the computer.
Step 2:	Check for your computer's maximum memory capability.
1     Start the Dell Memory Selector by clicking here (English only). 2     Enter the Service Tag (noted in the System Profiler above) and then click Search. 3     Write down the maximum memory and number of slots.
Step 3:	Select the best memory upgrade for your needs.
1     Compare the number of slots being used (found in Step 1) with the maximum number of slots in the computer (found in Step 2). If the system is not using the maximum number of slots, you can upgrade your memory by simply adding memory in the unused slot(s). 2     Compare the total amount of memory in the system with the maximum memory from Step 2. The difference tells you how much memory you are able to add or replace to reach the maximum. 3     Click View Recommended Upgrades  in the Memory Selector window opened above. (If you closed the window, you can open it again here.) A list of compatible upgrade components will be displayed. 4     Compare the available memory options with the information you collected above. If you have unused memory slots, any of the modules listed should provide for a boost in system performance. Select a module that fits comfortably within your budget. If all the memory slots are already in use, you can only upgrade your memory by replacing some or all of the memory in your system. If this is the case, consider a memory upgrade that will provide as much increase as possible within your ideal budget.
Step 4:	Purchase the new memory.
1     You can order your new memory directly from the Dell Memory Selector. Select the memory you chose in Step 3 by clicking the radio button next to the desired memory and click  Continue . (If you need more than one of the same size of desired memory, you can choose the number of modules to order in the next step.) 2     Choose the desired number of the selected memory module(s) you wish to order, then click Add To Cart . 3     Confirm the details in your Cart Summary and press Checkout . 4     Follow the prompts provided to finish ordering your new memory.
Step 5:	Install the new memory in the computer.
1     Once the memory arrives, your computer's user guide provides step-by-step instructions on adding or replacing your memory. You can also print and use the online version of the user's guide to provide the steps for installing memory in your specific system. To access the online User's Guide for you system, start by clicking here. 2     Click  Systems. 3     Select your computer type. 4     Select your computer model from the list that appears on the right. 5     Select your language. 6     If more than one guide is listed, click View next to Service Manual. If only one guide is listed, simply click View. 7     Click on Removing and Installing Parts. 8     Click  Memory. 9     Read through the guide provided completely before beginning the installation process. If you are upgrading or replacing memory on the system you are using to view the User's Guide, you will want to print or copy the information presented as a reference when you begin the installation.
