Performing an Installation Without Using CDs
In the System Properties window, click the tab labeled Hardware, and then click the button labeled Device Manager.
In Device Manager, click to navigate to the device for which you want to restore the previous drivers.
Double-click the device name to highlight the device.
When you click the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver in the Device Properties window, a window appears and asks if you are sure you want to roll back the driver.
The system rolls back the driver when you click Yes to continue the driver roll back process. There is no visual indication as this process occurs. When the roll back is finished, the system returns to the properties window.
When you click Close, the computer prompts you to restart the computer
Click Yes to restart the computer. Windows should be using the older version of the driver.
The Microsoft Windows XP driver rollback feature allows for only one level of rollback; only one prior driver version can be saved at a time.
The Dell Driver Reset Tool restores all the drivers on your computer to the last working state. For more information on the Driver Reset Tool, refer to the Dell KB Article: "Using the Dell™ Driver Reset Tool" Article ID: 181903.
To restore the computer to a previous state:
Click Start, and then click Help and Support.
In the Help and Support Center window under Pick a task, click Undo changes to your computer with System Restore.
In the Welcome to System Restore window, click Restore my computer to an earlier time, and then click Next.
In the System Restore window, click Select a Restore Point page.
On the calendar, click a date to which you want to restore. Then, on the list, click the restore point that you want. Select a date and restore point on which you know the computer was working correctly.
Click Next.
In the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, verify that the restore point that is listed is the one you selected, and then click Next.
After the computer restarts and the Restoration Complete page of the System Restore window appears, click OK.
Verify whether restoring the computer to the previous configuration resolves the issue. If the issue still occurs, try restoring the computer to an earlier restore point.
If you purchased the Dell DataSafe option when you ordered your computer, you can use it to roll back the system to a healthy state. If you need to recover from a complete hard drive failure and have DataSafe, then you only have to replace the failing drive. The RAID BIOS detects the new drive, and then automatically rebuilds the new drive.
Use the Norton Ghost 10 user interface to restore data that has been backed up to the DataSafe partition. To open Norton Ghost, click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Norton Ghost, and then click Norton Ghost to display the Norton Ghost window.

On select computers, a trial version of Ghost 10 may be included. If you have activated the application, incremental backups are available from which to restore. To check if the program is installed on your computer, click the Start button, point to Programs, point to Norton Ghost, and then click Norton Ghost.

The Dell PC Restore by Symantec utility reinstalls the Windows® operating system and all of your Dell-installed hardware drivers and software applications.
For instructions on using Dell PC Restore, refer to the Dell KB Article: "Restore the Software on a Dell™ Computer to Original Configuration" Article ID: 333950.
If other methods for reinstalling your operating system have failed, the only option is to reinstall from the installation media.
