In addition to the troubleshooting steps listed below, the Dell™ 32-bit Diagnostics includes a camera diagnostic
you can run to test the camera hardware's functionality.
The camera is part of the base sku. To replace the camera you must replace the compelte base sku.
Listed below are some common issues that may occur when using the camera.
Dell Webcam Installation Guide
Install the webcam driver from Dell Resource CD — Using the platform specific Resource CD, browse to Device Driver catalog and find the Input Device, select the "Creative Labs Laptop Integrated Webcam" and follow the extracting and installation instructions to proceed. (No need to restart the system until next steps finished)
Install the webcam applications from CD — Find the CD labeled "Dell Webcam Manager" and run the SETUP.EXE (Autorun executable). Follow the installation steps.
Uninstall the webcam applications and driver — Close all applications running on the system. Go into the Control Panel > Programs/Uninstall a program, then Uninstall the following items sequentially. Wait to restart the system until all items all items have been removed:

Restart the system
Verify Webcam SW Installation
Verify the webcam driver had been properly installed — Go into Control Panel > Device Manager, find the Imaging devices for a Laptop Integrated Webcam and double click it. Then verify the Manufacturer is "Creative Technologies Ltd." on the General properties page.
Verify if the webcam SW been properly installed — After confirming the correct webcam driver has been installed properly, look for the Dell Webcam icon in the right side of Task bar, then right click it and select the "Launch Webcam Center". Click the "Start" button in the center. The blue LED next to the camera should turn on and the webcam application should display the image of what it is pointing towards.
Dell Webcam Troubleshooting Guide
No Webcam Icon Present in Taskbar
Check the webcam SW installation — The Dell Webcam Icon should be present in the right area of Taskbar for use normally. If the webcam icon has disappeared, please follow the steps in Verify the webcam SW installation to fix the problem.
Launch Webcam Manager from Start Menu — Click Start > All Programs > DELL > DELL Webcam Manager.
No Image is Displayed
Follow the steps in Verify the webcam SW installation to confirm the webcam SW had been installed properly.
Image quality problems: e.g. too dark, too bright, etc.
Adjust the webcam settings — The Webcam Console provides a method of adjusting the camera settings. Right click the webcam Icon and select the "Launch Webcam Console". There is a Picture Controls section which allows you to adjust Brightness, Contrast and Color setting. Clicking the "Reset" button to restore the webcam back to factory default setting. The "Advance" button provides further settings and preferences.
Recorded Video has no Sound
Check the Audio Source — Go into the Video Recording tab in Webcam Center, check the bottom-right side for the Audio Source and confirm if the proper microphone input source had been selected.
Dell Webcam How-to Guide
Enable or Disable the Face tracking — Right click the Dell Webcam Icon and select "Launch Webcam Console". The Face Tracking section is the second option on the Camera tab. Use the check box to Enable/Disable and the radio buttons for the Continuous or Periodic settings. The Advanced button allows settings for Speed (Slow, Normal or Fast) and Picture-in-Picture (Left or Right corners).
Turning on the Face Tracking feature will diable the Pan and Zoom function.
Pan and Zoom
Enable or Disable the Pan and Zoom — Right click the Dell Webcam Icon and select "Launch Webcam Console". The Pan and Zoom section is the third option on the Camera tab. It is disabled is the Face Tracking functionality is enabled. Use the Pan and Zoom to move the camera to the desired position or to zoom in on specific targets.
Enable or Disable Video Effects — Right click the Dell Webcam Icon and select "Launch Webcam Console". The Video Effects section is the second option on the Effects tab. Use the checkbox to enable. Select desired effect from the Effects window. Use the Catagory drop-down to filter the effect type.
The most effects only applies to the active target. In other words, if more than one person is in frame, only one person will have the effect displayed on them (the person cloesest to the center of the frame).
Enable or Disable Audio Effects — Right click the Dell Webcam Icon and select "Launch Webcam Console". The Audio Effects section is the first option on the Effects tab. Use the checkbox to enable. Select desired effect from the Effects window.
Audio effects only work on video recordings. The desired effect cannot be heard real-time. Instead they can only be heard upon play-back.
Enable or Disable Doodling — Right click the Dell Webcam Icon and select "Launch Webcam Console". The Doodling section is the third option on the Effects tab. It is enabled by default. Click the Doodle Off button to disable. Click on the button for the desired doodling tool below the doodling window. The size, color and opacity of the doodling brush can be selected below the doodling tools area.
Doodling can only be done within the Doodle window. The desired effect can be seen there and on the main camera display.
Click the Clear All button to erase.
Capture Photo/video — Go into Webcam Center, Photo (or Video) Capture tab. Make sure the disired target is seen in the preview screen. Click the "Capture" button with a camera icon in the bottom side of Webcam Center, avoid movement until the countdown completes. An audible "camera shutter" sound indicates completion. Click the "Show Panel" button in the upper-right corner of the Webcam Center to view the Photo captures. Alternately, you can go into the My Recordings tab for reviewing or managing captured recordings.
Setup Webcam Chat
Windows Live! Messenger (MSN)
Setup Webcam — In Windows Live! Messenger, go to Tools > Audio and Video Settings. Follow the setup Wizard. In step 3 select "Laptop Integrated Webcam".
Test or configure Webcam — In Windows Live! Messenger, go to Tools > Audio and Video Settings. Adjust Brightness, Contrast, etc. settings.
Using Live! Cam Avatar — In Windows Live! Messenger, go to Tools > Audio and Video Settings. Follow the setup Wizard. In step 3 select "Live! Cam Virtual".
Setup Webcam — In Yahoo! Messenger, go to Preferences > Webcam , click the "Camera Source" button and select "Laptop Integrated Webcam".
Test or configure Webcam — In Yahoo! Messenger, go to the "My Webcam" menu and adjust Brightness, Contrast, etc. as needed.
Using Live! Cam Avatar — In Yahoo! Messenger, go to Preferences > Webcam , click the "Camera Source" button and select "Live! Cam Virtual".
Setup and test Webcam — In SKYPE, go to Tools > Options. Click Video Settings and Select "Laptop Integrated Webcam" as the input source for testing your webcam.
Using Live! Cam Avatar — In SKYPE, go to Tools > Options. Click Video Settings and Select "Live! Cam Virtual" as the input source for testing your webcam.
