Power Button

Press the power button to turn on the computer.

NOTICE: To turn off your computer, perform a Windows® shutdown instead of by pressing the power button. Otherwise, you may lose data.

Breakaway Hinges

The breakaway hinges allow for easy door removal to prevent damaging the door.

IEEE 1394 Connector

Use the IEEE 1394 connector (available on computers with an IEEE 1394 option) for high-speed data transfer between your computer and a peripheral device, such as a digital camera.

CD or DVD Drive Light

The CD or DVD drive light is on when the computer reads data from or writes data to your CD or DVD drive.

Hard-Drive Light

The hard-drive light is on when the computer reads data from or writes data to your hard drive.

PC Card Connectors

Use the PC Card connectors for 16-bit PCMCIA cards only.

USB 2.0 Connectors

NOTICE: This computer supports the use of a USB hub. However, do not connect two or more USB hubs to a USB connector. Doing so may cause the computer to unexpectedly reboot.
HINT: If you attach a USB device that was not included in your original computer order, you may need to install a specific driver to make the device work. Check the documentation that came with the device or contact the USB device manufacturer for more information.

For quick connections, it is recommend that you use the front USB connectors for USB devices such as digital cameras, gaming controllers, and scanners. Use the back-panel USB connectors for USB devices that are seldom disconnected, such as USB mouse and keyboard devices.

Headphone Connector

Use the headphone connector to attach headphones and most speakers for listening to all sounds from your computer, including your CD player and computer sounds such as beeps.

Parallel Connector

Connect a parallel device, such as a printer, to the parallel connector. If you have a USB printer, plug it into a USB connector.

Mouse Connector

Plug a standard mouse into the green mouse connector. Turn off the computer and any attached devices before you connect a mouse to the computer. If you have a USB mouse, plug it into a USB connector.

Network Connector

Connect your computer to a network using this connector.

Optional Video Card Connector

If you purchased the optional video card, plug your monitor into the video card connector.

Modem Connector

Use the modem connector to connect your computer to the Internet.

Power Connector

Use the power connector to attach the computer's power cable to the computer and an electrical outlet.

Voltage Selection Switch (may not be available on all computers)

Your computer is equipped with either an auto-sensing voltage selector or a manual voltage selection switch. See the safety instructions in your Owner's Manual for more information.

IEEE 1394 Connector

Use the IEEE 1394 connector (available on computers with an IEEE 1394 option) for high-speed data transfer between your computer and a peripheral device, such as a digital camera.

Line-In Connector

Use the blue line-in connector to attach a record/playback device such as a cassette player, CD player, or VCR.

Line-Out Connector

Use the green line-out connector to attach headphones and most speakers with integrated amplifiers.

Microphone Connector

Use the pink microphone connector to attach a personal computer microphone for voice or musical input into a sound or telephony program.

USB 2.0 Connectors

Connect a USB device such as a mouse, keyboard, printer, joystick, or speaker system into any of the USB connectors.

Keyboard Connector

If you have a standard keyboard, plug it into the purple keyboard connector. If you have a USB keyboard, plug it into a USB connector.

Diagnostic Lights

Use the lights to help you troubleshoot a computer problem based on the diagnostic code.

Integrated Video Connector

If this connector has a protective cap over it, then your computer has the optional video card installed. If this connector does not have a protective cap over it, plug the cable from your monitor into the blue connector.

Serial Connector

Connect a serial device to the serial connector.
