Please read all restrictions and disclaimers

Quick Start

1. Assemble your Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card.

Note: You need to make sure that the card is not installed in your computer before the software is installed.

Note: If this device was purchased with a new Dell system, the SIM card may already be installed. If you have verified that it has been installed, skip steps a and b below..

Note: The SIM card's contact points are used to make a connection with the modem. Take care when handling the SIM card as the contacts can be damaged easily.

a) Using a finger nail or tip of a ball point pen pull out the SIM Card slide-in tray.
b) Place your SIM Card in the SIM Card tray with the gold contacts facing upwards. Ensure that the tray is closed properly.

Note: Make sure the angled corner of the SIM Card fits the SIM Card insertion slot of the Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card correctly.

c) Connect the antenna to the end of the Dell TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card next to the SIM Card tray.
d) Please ensure the antenna is secured fully.

2. Install the software

Note: If the device was purchased with a new Dell system then the software will already be installed. If you have verified that it has been installed, skip this step. Also, an Administrator account is required to install the software on your system.

a) Insert the TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card CD into your computer's CD drive. If the CD does not start automatically, select Start Run and type D:/launch.exe in to the Run dialog box. (Where D is your CD drive.)
b) Launch the TrueMobile GPRS Manager installation program and follow the on screen instructions.
c) When installation is complete click Finish.

3. Insert the Card

a) Fully insert the TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card into your computer's PC Card slot. A beep signals that your computer has recognised it.
b) After a few seconds the New Hardware dialog opens and the necessary drivers for the TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card are installed from the CD.
c) The TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card and the TrueMobile GPRS Manager software are now installed and ready for use.

Note: You may notice that the Hardware installation wizard runs twice. This is because your TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card has both a network device component, and a modem device component.

4. Configure your GPRS PC Card

a) Using your computer, double-click the TrueMobile GPRS Manager icon on your Windows desktop, or select Programs Dell TrueMobile 5100 TrueMobile GPRS Manager to open the TrueMobile GPRS Manager.
b) Enter your SIM Card PIN, if requested. Click OK.

Note: If you received your SIM together with the TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card then your SIM Card PIN may already have been disabled, so that you will not be requested to enter it. However, if a SIM Card PIN is in fact required, this will be included in the information provided by your Service Provider.

c) The TrueMobile GPRS Manager opens. After a short delay the TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card will automatically register to the cellular network and your signal strength and Network Operator will be displayed in the Status screen.
d) To connect to the Internet or Intranet, you will need to set up a connection as specified by your Service Provider.

Note: If the TrueMobile 5100 Tri-band GPRS PC Card was purchased with a new Dell system, your connection profile will already have been set up in the TrueMobile GPRS Manager. If you have verified that the connection has been set up, skip the remaining steps in this section.
e) If the connection wizard has not started automatically select in the TrueMobile GPRS Manager and the connection wizard will launch.
f) Enter a name for the new connection, for example 'My Connection', and click Next.
g) Select your Network Operator from the drop down list. If your Network Operator is not listed select <Other>. Click Next.

Note: If you selected a Network Operator from the drop down list the correct parameters for connection to the Network Operator are automatically entered for you.

h) Enter the APN (Access Point Name), if required by your GPRS Service Provider.
i) Click Advanced… to set specific parameters if necessary.

Note: Your Service Provider will normally provide the information required for connection to the network. Should you require assistance in entering the information, press the F1 key to display the Online Help.

j) Close the dialog when you have finished and click Next.
k) If you need a User ID and Password to log on to your Service Provider enter them in to the specific fields. If you don't, leave the fields blank. Click Next.
L) Click Finish to create the connection.
