If you ordered the Quadro FX 3000-based graphics card with a system, Dell installed and configured it for use.
Refer to the following instructions only if you purchased a customer kit or need to install a new device driver.
Installing the NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP Display Driver
Note:
If you are running Windows XP or Windows 2000, these drivers must be installed by a user with Administrator
privileges. Please consult your system administrator or Microsoft Windows User's Manual for more
information on Administrator privileges.
Extract Driver from the Dell Resource CD
Insert the Dell Resource CD into the CD/DVD-ROM drive.
If the Dell Resource CD window does not open automatically, double-click
My Computer on your desktop and then double-click the CD/DVD-ROM drive containing the Dell Resource CD.
Follow the instructions provided by the Dell Resource CD to locate the
driver package for your graphics card.
Once you have located the package, select it to unzip the driver on to the hard drive.
The files are extracted by default directory to the C:\Dell\Drivers\xxxxx (where xxxxx is the name of the driver being unzipped).
At the WinZip Self-Extractor screen, click OK.
At the Dell Computer Self-Extracting Driver Installation screen,
click Unzip. Once the files have been unzipped, click OK.
In a moment, your browser opens with further instructions for installing the driver.
Installing the Updated Driver
Note:
The following instructions refer to installation of the driver from your Dell Resource CD.
If you downloaded the driver from the Dell Support web site, then in instruction 3 below type the correct path on your hard drive where
the new driver has been downloaded.
This driver must be installed by a user with Windows Administrator
privileges. Please consult your system administrator or Microsoft
Windows XP or Windows 2000 User's Manual for more information on Administrator privileges.
Start Microsoft Windows XP or Windows 2000.
Double click on the Setup.exe file located with the
driver package. If you extracted the drivers from the Dell Resource CD using the default directory they will be
located in C:\Dell\Drivers\xxxxx (where xxxxx is the name of the driver being unzipped).
At the InstallShield screen, click Next to begin the driver install procedure.
Follow the InstallShield instructions to install your driver.
Click Finish to complete the driver installation.
When prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.
Note:
When your computer starts up, if you see an error message similar to the following,
shut down your computer: "Your
NVIDIA GPU-based graphics card is operating on a limited power source.
Your internal power cable may not be properly
connected to your graphics card."
Look inside the computer and locate the small power cable with a plastic
connector.
Insert that plastic connector to your Quadro FX 3000-based graphics card's 4-pin
connector located on its top right corner.
Ensure that the cable connector is pushed in all the way into the connector on the
graphics card.
Turn on your computer.
Steps to follow if your NVIDIA Quadro FX 3000-based card is not recognized by Windows
These drivers must be installed by a user with Windows Administrator
privileges. Please consult your system administrator or the Microsoft
Windows XP or Windows 2000 User's Guide for more information on Administrator privileges.
Start Windows XP or Windows 2000.
From the Windows taskbar, click Start > Settings
> Control Panel.
Double-click the Add/Remove Hardware icon.
Click Next.
If theAdd/Troubleshoot a device
option is not selected, select it and click Next.
Click and highlight the Video Controller (VGA Compatible)
option and
click
Next.
The message "The driver for this device are not installed. (Code 28)" is
displayed.
Click Finish.
The Upgrade Device Driver Wizard windows appear.
Click Next.
Select Search for a suitable driver for my device (recommended) and click
Next.
Under Optional Search Locations, select Specify a location only and click
Next.
Type C:\DELL\DRIVERS\xxxxx in the space provided and click
OK.
After Windows finds the drivers, click Next. Files will be copied.
Click Finish.
Restart your computer.
Changing Display Driver Settings
From the Windows taskbar, click Start > Settings
> Control Panel.
Double-click the Display icon to access the Display
Properties panel.
Click the Settings tab, then select the desired Screen
resolution and Color depth. Refer to Modifying Display Modes
for
supported resolutions.
Click OK and click Yes to keep your settings.
The installation (or reinstallation) of the NVIDIA Windows 2000/XP Display
Driver is now complete.
Windows 2000 only: Switching Between Dualview
(Extended Desktop) and nView Clone Mode
Note:
If you are running Windows 2000, follow the instructions
below to switch from Dualview (Extended desktop) to nView (Clone) display mode. Note that you
have to disable Dualview (Extended desktop) mode in order to access the nView Clone display
mode and other features on the nView Display Mode panel.
Under Windows 2000,when you first install the NVIDIA display
driver, you will see a prompt asking you to confirm Dualview (Extended desktop)
mode
installation.
Note:
Be sure to follow the prompts (click Yes or OK, as
needed) and install Dualview (Extended desktop) mode.
Wait as your computer restarts.
After you are returned to your desktop, from the Windows taskbar, click Start
> Settings > Control Panel.
Double-click the Display icon to access the Display
Properties dialog box and then click the Settings
tab.
Note:
You will now see "two" monitor images, which indicates that you
are in Dualview (Extended desktop) mode.
Click monitor image 2, then right-click to display a properties menu.
Click Attach and then click Apply.
You may also want to modify Screen resolution and Color depth at this point.
Be sure to set the Color depth value to be greater than 256 Colors. Refer to Modifying Display Modes for
supported resolutions.
If you are prompted to confirm changes you just made, click Yes or OK on
the message box, as appropriate.
Click the Advanced button and then click the Quadro
FX 3000 tab to display the associated panel.
From the Media Center Menu that appears on the left of the panel, click the nView Display Mode option to display the
nView Display Mode panel.
Notice that the options on the nView Display Mode panel are disabled (grayed)
except for the checkbox titled "Enable extended desktop mode.
(Requires reboot.)".
In order to enable nView Clone mode option, click this checkbox to uncheck
(disable) it and click Apply. The "Restart Required" message
box appears.
Click the Restart Now button. Your system automatically restarts.
After you are returned to your desktop, from the Windows taskbar, click Start
> Settings > Control Panel.
Double-click the Display icon to access the Display
Properties panel and then click the Settings
tab.
Note:
You will now see "one" monitor image. This means that Dualview (Extended desktop)
mode is disabled and you can access nView Clone display mode and other
features from your nView Display Mode panel.
Click the Advanced option and then click the
Quadro FX3000 tab to display the associated panel.
From the Media Center menu that appears on the left of the panel, click nView Display Mode to display the nView Display
Mode panel.
Notice that now all the nView mode options, such as Clone, are accessible and
not grayed as they were in step 11 earlier.
To enable Clone mode, click Clone and click Apply.
If you are prompted to confirm the change, click Yes and/or OK
on the message box(es), as needed.
