Pre-removal steps: During installation or removal of any hardware, always turn off the computer and ensure that all data is backed up properly. Disconnect any telephone, network, and USB cables from the computer. Disconnect the computer and all attached devices from their electrical outlets. Remove the computer cover. Whenever opening the computer, lay it flat with the LCD facing down on a soft towel or surface that will not scratch the glass face. The foam inserts from the computer packaging can be used to protect the glass face of the LCD. A cleaning/wipe cloth was included with the computer originally that can be used for this purpose.

1. Disconnect the optical drive lighting cable.

2. Lift the hinge on the optical drive data cable connector.

3. Disconnect the optical drive data cable.

4. Remove the two screws securing the optical drive.

5. Shift the optical drive towards the center of the computer.

6. Remove the optical drive.
