Removing the Battery Latch Assembly

CAUTION: Before you begin the following procedure, follow the safety instructions that shipped with your computer.
  1. Follow the instructions in Before Working on Your Computer.

  2. Remove the hard drive (see Removing the Hard Drive).

  3. Remove the WLAN card (see Removing a WLAN Card).

  4. Remove the fan (see Removing the Fan).

  5. Remove the hinge cover (see Removing the Hinge Cover).

  6. Remove the keyboard (see Removing the Keyboard).

  7. Remove the display assembly (see Removing the Display Assembly).

  8. Remove the palm rest (see Removing the Palm Rest).

  9. Disconnect the cable that secures the internal card with Bluetooth® wireless technology to the system board (see Removing the Card).

  10. Remove the optical drive (see Removing the Optical Drive).

  11. Remove the system board (see Removing the System Board Assembly).

  12. Remove the DC-power module cable from the system board (see Removing the DC Power Module).

  13. Remove the M2 x 3-mm screw from the battery latch assembly.

  14. Remove the M2 x 3-mm screw from the alignment bracket.

  15. Lift the alignment bracket over the pin and push to the left to remove.

NOTICE: The battery-latch assembly spring is not secured to the latch assembly and can be easily misplaced. When removing the battery latch assembly, place the spring in a secure location until the latch is ready to be reinstalled.
  1. Lift the battery-latch assembly out of the computer and unhook the battery latch assembly spring.

NOTICE: Before you remove the battery release button, observe the orientation of the button to ensure proper installation when the button is replaced.
  1. Remove the M2 washer screw from the battery release button.

Replacing the Battery Latch Assembly

CAUTION: Before you begin the following procedure, follow the safety instructions that shipped with your computer.
NOTICE: Ensure the battery latch assembly is properly oriented. The indent for the screw should face up when installing the assembly.
NOTE: This procedure assumes that you have completed the removal procedure first.
  1. Ensure that the battery-latch assembly spring is properly mounted on the guide post of the battery latch assembly.

  2. Align the battery release button with the hole in the battery latch assembly, then press the button into place.

  3. Replace the M2 washer screw that holds the battery release button in the battery latch assembly.

  4. Align the guide post on the battery latch assembly with the slot on the base of the computer, then lower the latch assembly into place.

NOTICE: The battery release button is keyed to ensure proper alignment. If you feel resistance, check the alignment of the release button.
  1. Replace the M2 x 3-mm screw that secures the battery latch assembly.

  2. Position the alignment bracket and replace the M2 x 3-mm screw that secures the bracket to the computer base.

  3. Connect the DC-power module cable to the system board (see Replacing the DC Power Module).

  4. Replace the system board (see Replacing the System Board Assembly).

  5. Replace the optical drive (see Replacing the Optical Drive).

  6. Connect the cable that secures the internal card with Bluetooth wireless technology to the system board (see Replacing the Card).

  7. Replace the palm rest (see Replacing the Palm Rest).

  8. Replace the display assembly (see Replacing the Display Assembly).

  9. Replace the keyboard (see Replacing the Keyboard).

  10. Replace the hinge cover (see Replacing the Hinge Cover).

  11. Replace the fan (see Replacing the Fan).

  12. Replace the hard drive (see Replacing the Hard Drive).

  13. Replace the WLAN card (see Replacing a WLAN Card).
