Most digital cameras use a memory card to store photos. The printer supports the following digital media:

Memory cards should be inserted with the label facing up. The card reader has two slots to accommodate these media and a small light that blinks indicating the card is being read or is transmitting data.

NOTICE: Do not remove the memory card or USB key, or touch the printer near the area of the memory card or USB key while actively reading, writing, or printing from these devices. Data corruption can occur.

The connector that is used for PictBridge may also be used for accessing information stored on USB Flash Drive devices. When you insert a memory card or USB key, the printer automatically switches to Photo mode.

NOTE: Do not insert more than one memory card or USB key at a time.
NOTE: The printer supports FAT32 data format. Files stored in NTFS should be converted to FAT32 data format.

Printing Photos

Viewing or Printing Photos

  1. Insert a memory card or USB key.

    The printer automatically switches to Photo mode.

  2. Press the Select button select button to access the Photo Card Mode menu.

  3. From Browse and Print Photos, press the Select button select button.

  4. Press the left or right Arrow button left arrow button right arrow button to scroll through the photos on the memory card or USB key.

  5. Press the Select button select button to select a photo for printing.

  6. Press the up or down Arrow button up arrow button down arrow button to specify the number of copies.

    Repeat steps 5–6 for each photo you want to print.

  7. Press the Start button start button to preview your selections.

    The Photo Print Preview menu opens.

  8. Press the left or right Arrow button left arrow button right arrow button to scroll through the thumbnail previews of your printed photos.

    To change the print settings:

    1. Press the Menu button menu button to open the Photo Print Settings menu.

    2. After adjusting the settings, press the Back button back button to return to the Photo Print Preview menu.

  9. Press the Start button start button to print your photos.

    10. NOTE: Only photos in JPG and a limited set of TIFF formats can be printed directly from the memory card or USB key. If you want to print photos stored on the memory card or USB key in a different file format, the photos must be transferred to your computer before printing.

Saving Photos to Your Computer

  1. Insert the memory card or USB key. The printer automatically switches to the Photo mode.

  2. Press the up or down Arrow button up arrow button down arrow button to scroll to Save Photos to Computer, and then press the Select button select button.

  3. Press the up or down Arrow button up arrow button down arrow button to choose a file destination, and then press the Select button select button.

  4. Press the Start button start button.

    The Memory Card Manager launches on your computer.

  5. Follow the instructions on the Memory Card Manager dialog box to transfer the photos to your computer.

Viewing a Slide Show

You can view all the photos stored on a memory card or USB key through a slide show.

  1. Insert a memory card or USB key. The printer automatically switches to Photo mode.

  2. Press the Select button select button to access the Photo Card Mode menu.

  3. Press the up or down Arrow button up arrow button down arrow button to scroll to View Slideshow, and then press the Select button select button.

  4. Press the up or down Arrow button up arrow button down arrow button to select the speed of the slide show, and then press the Select button select button.

Printing All Photos

  1. Insert the memory card or USB key. The printer automatically switches to Photo mode.

  2. Press the Select button select button to access the Photo Card Mode menu.

  3. Press the up or down Arrow button up arrow button down arrow button to scroll to Print All Photos, and then press the Select button select button.

  4. Press the up or down Arrow button up arrow button down arrow button to choose the number of photos that will be printed on a page, and then press the Select button select button.

  5. From the Print Preview menu, press the Menu button menu button to adjust the print settings and edit your photos, or press the Start button start button to print your photos.

NOTE: Only images in JPG and a limited set of TIFF formats can be printed directly from the memory card or USB key. If you want to print photos stored on the memory card or USB key in a different file format, the photos must be transferred to your computer before printing.

Printing a DPOF Selection

If your camera supports DPOF, you can specify which photos to print, and how many of each, while the memory card is still in the camera. The printer recognizes these settings when you insert the memory card into the printer.

NOTE: If you specified a paper size in the DPOF selection, make sure the size of the paper loaded is not smaller than the size you specified.

  1. Insert a memory card. The printer automatically switches to Photo mode.

  2. Press the up or down Arrow button up arrow button down arrow button to scroll to Print Camera Selections, and then press the Select button select button.

  3. Press the Select button select button to display the DPOF selection you specified.

    A preview of the print job appears.

  4. Press the Start button start button to print the photos.

Printing Photos Using a Proof Sheet

  1. Insert the memory card or USB key.

    If the printer detects photos on the memory card or USB key, it automatically highlights Photo mode. Otherwise, press the up or down Arrow button up arrow button down arrow button to scroll to Photo, and then press the Select button select button.

    NOTE: Only images in JPEG and a limited set of TIFF formats can be printed directly from the memory card or USB key. If you want to print photos stored on the memory card or USB key in a different file format, the photos must be transferred to your computer before printing. For more information, see Saving Photos to Your Computer.

  2. Press the up or down Arrow button up arrow button down arrow button to scroll to Photo Proof Sheet, and then press the Select button select button.

  3. Press the up or down Arrow button up arrow button down arrow button to specify which photos on the memory card or USB key to print on the proof sheet, and then press the Select button select button.

    You can choose from

    To

    Print Sheet with All X Photos

    Print all photos on the memory card or USB key on the proof sheet.

    “X” is the number of photos detected on the memory card or USB key.

    Print most recent 25 photos

    Print the 25 most recent photos on the proof sheet.

    Print Sheet Using Date Range

    Print only photos created in a certain date range.

    Press the Select button select button, and then choose a date range.


  4. Load plain letter or A4 paper, and then press the Select button select button. For more information, see Loading Paper.

    The proof sheet prints.

    NOTE: After printing a proof sheet, the printer automatically highlights Scan Proof Sheet in preparation for step 6.

  5. Follow the instructions on the proof sheet to select which photos to print, and to choose a layout and paper type to use.

    Fill in the circle with the red-eye icon below a photo to reduce the red-eye effect on the printout.

    NOTE: Make sure you completely fill in the circles when making selections.

  6. Load the proof sheet facing down on the scanner glass, and then press the Select button select button. For more information, see Loading Original Documents.

  7. Load the photo paper. For more information, see Loading Paper.

    NOTE: Make sure the size of the paper you loaded in the printer matches the paper size you specified in the proof sheet.
    NOTE: Photo/glossy paper is recommended for printing photos.

  8. Press the Start button start button.

    The printer scans the proof sheet and prints your selected photos.

NOTICE: Do not remove the memory card or turn off the printer until the photos you selected in the photo proof sheet have been printed. The proof sheet becomes invalid when the memory card is removed from the printer or anytime the printer is turned off.

Altering Photos Before Printing

  1. Insert a memory card or USB key. The printer automatically switches to Photo mode.

  2. Press the Select button select button to enter the Photo Card Mode menu.

  3. From Browse and Print Photos, press the Select button select button.

  4. Press the left or right Arrow button left arrow button right arrow button to scroll to the photo you want to edit, and then press the Select button select button.

  5. Press the Menu button menu button.

    The Photo Menu opens.

  6. From Edit Photo, press the Select button select button.

    The menu items appear beside the photo you want to edit.

  7. Press the up or down Arrow button up arrow button down arrow button to scroll through the menu items.

  8. Press the left or right Arrow button left arrow button right arrow button to scroll through the options for each menu item.

  9. After altering your photos, press the Back button back button to save your changes.

Printing Microsoft Office Files

  1. Turn on your computer and printer, and make sure they are connected.

  2. Insert a memory card into a card slot or a USB key into the PictBridge port.

    The printer automatically switches to Print Files mode if there are only Microsoft Office files stored on the memory card or USB key. Only files that have filename extensions *.DOC, *.DOCX, *.PDF, *.PPT, *.PPTX, *.RTF, *.XLS, *.XLSX, *.WPD, and *.WPS are recognized.

    NOTE: The printer automatically switches to Photo mode if there are photos stored on the memory card or USB key. Press the Back button back button to exit the Photo menu, and then press the up or down Arrow button up arrow button down arrow button to scroll to Print Files. Press the Select button select button to access the Print Files Mode menu.

  3. Press the Start button start button to access the Print Files Selection menu.

    NOTE: Press the Select button select button to change the Paper Handling settings before selecting a file to print. After customizing your settings, press the Back button back button to save your changes.

  4. Press the up or down Arrow button up arrow button down arrow button to scroll to the file that you want to print.

  5. Press the Start button start button.
