Using an External Keyboard, Keypad, or Mouse: Latitude LM
You can connect a keyboard with a standard 5-pin connector to
the PS/2 connector on the computer by using an adapter available
from Dell.
If the computer is in suspend mode or suspend-to-disk mode
when you attach an external keyboard, the computer recognizes the
device when normal operation is resumed.
You can use the built-in keyboard when an external keyboard is
attached to the computer.
You can attach an external numeric keypad to the PS/2
connector at any time, without turning off the computer.
|
NOTE: If the computer is in standby mode, suspend
mode, or suspend-to-disk mode when you attach an external
numeric keypad, the computer recognizes the device when
normal operation is resumed. |
Attach a PS/2-compatible mouse to the PS/2 connector on the
computer.
If you attach a mouse to the computer, you must reboot in
order to use the mouse. While the mouse is attached to the
computer, the touch pad is disabled.
The touch pad device drivers that Dell installed on your
hard-disk drive work with a PS/2 mouse or serial mouse from Dell.
If you did not receive your mouse from Dell, but the mouse is
Microsoft-compatible and you are using the Microsoft Windows
95 operating system, you do not need to install device drivers.
If you are using the Microsoft Windows 3.x operating
system, you must install third party device drivers in order to
use the mouse. This software is usually included with mouse
upgrade kits.
|
NOTES: If you attach a serial mouse to the serial
connector, set the Touch Pad option in the Peripherals
menu to Disabled. The serial (external) port permits use
of a modem without touch pad conflict. If you
are using a PS/2 mouse that is not made by Microsoft and
the mouse does not work properly, reboot the computer. If
the mouse still does not work, install the drivers from
the diskette that came with the mouse, and reboot the
computer.
