Using an External Monitor: Latitude LM
Use the 15-pin monitor connector to attach an external monitor
to the computer. If you reconfigure your hardware, you may need
pin number and signal information for the monitor connector. Use
the following procedure to connect an external monitor:
- Turn off the external monitor.
Set the monitor on a monitor stand, desk
top, or other level surface near the computer.
|
CAUTION: Do not place the external
monitor directly on top of your portable computer,
even if it is closed. Doing so can crack the computer
case, the display, or both. |
- Connect the external monitor's video cable to the
computer.
Plug the monitor cable connector into the
matching monitor connector at the back of the computer.
If the cable is not permanently attached to the monitor,
connect it to the monitor also.
Tighten all the screws on the monitor cable connector(s)
to eliminate RFI.
- Connect your external monitor to a grounded AC power
source.
Plug the 3-prong connector on one end of
the monitor's power cable into a grounded power strip or
some other grounded power source.
If the cable is not permanently attached to the monitor,
connect it to the monitor also.
Press <Fn><F8> to display the video image on an
external monitor, on the computer's display, or on both
simultaneously.
If the external monitor is turned off when you boot the
computer, the computer still sends the video image to the
external monitor. In this case, you do not see an
image on either the computer's display or on the external
monitor. To resolve this situation, turn on the external monitor
or press <Fn><F8> to switch the video image to the
computer's display.
If you are using an appropriately equipped multifrequency
monitor only, you can display up to 256 colors at a
noninterlaced resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. When
you use an external monitor and the built-in display
simultaneously, the highest resolution supported is 800 x 600
pixels and 256 colors.
|
NOTE: If you are using your external monitor at a
resolution greater than the display's resolution (for
example, 1024 x 768), the simultaneous display feature is
disabled. You cannot switch to the built-in display
(pressing <Fn><F8> will have no effect). To
use the external monitor, switch to a resolution that
your display supports, or disconnect the external monitor
and restart the computer. To use the built-in display,
switch resolutions to 800 x 600 pixels
(<Fn><F8> will now work). |
If you are using a resolution of 1024 x 768 on the built-in
display, or if the Video Mode option in the Setup program is set
to Simul, the panning drivers allow you to view the image in
sections on the display.
