The system board's BIOS chip contains the Service Tag, which is also visible on a barcode label on the bottom of the computer. The replacement kit for the system board includes media that provides a utility for transferring the Service Tag to the replacement system board.
Removing the System Board Assembly

CAUTION: Ensure no loose cables get caught beneath the system board.
To replace the system board, follow the removal steps in reverse order:
Route the power cable and place the power connector in the base
assembly.
Insert the bottom edge of the system board into the base of the computer,
ensuring that the system board is placed under the metal latch
mechanism.
Lower the top of the system board to reconnect the power, USB, and serial
connectors.
Connect the top right of the system board to the I/O daughter card
connector.
Place the top side of the system board in the base.
Replace the five M2.5 x 5-mm screws on the top of the system board.
Connect the ExpressCard cable to the system board.
Connect the Secure Digital card cable to the system board.
CAUTION: Before turning on the computer, replace all screws and ensure that no stray screws remain inside the computer. Failure to do so may result in damage to the computer.
Turn on the computer.
NOTE: If you use a BIOS update program CD to flash the BIOS, press <F12> before inserting the CD in order to set the computer to boot from the CD for one time only. Otherwise, you must enter the system setup program to change the default boot order.
Enter the system setup program to update the BIOS on the new system
board with the computer Service Tag. For information about the system
setup program, see the Dell Technology Guide on your computer or on
the Dell Support website at support.dell.com.
