Removing the Power Module
Replacing the Power Module
Removing the Power Module
Before working inside your computer, read the safety information that shipped with your computer. For additional safety best practices information, see the Regulatory Compliance Homepage at: www.dell.com/regulatory_compliance.
Follow the instructions in Before Working on Your Computer .
Close the display and turn the computer over.
Remove the bottom of the base assembly (see Removing the Bottom of
the Base Assembly ).
Remove the coin-cell battery (see Removing the Coin-Cell Battery).
Remove the hard drive (see Removing the Hard Drive ).
Remove the optical drive (see Removing the Optical Drive ).
Remove the LED cover (see Removing the LED Cover ).
Remove the keyboard (see Removing the Keyboard ).
Remove the speaker/fingerprint reader cover (see Removing the Right-
Speaker and Fingerprint Reader Cover ).
Remove the fan (see Removing the Fan ).
Remove the processor thermal-cooling assembly (see Removing the
Processor Thermal-Cooling Assembly ).
Remove the hinge covers (see Removing the Hinge Covers ).
Remove the display assembly (see Removing the Display Assembly ).
Remove the palm rest assembly (see Removing the Palm Rest Assembly ).
Remove the card cage (see Removing the Card Cage ).
Remove the three M2.5 x 5-mm screws labeled with white arrows from the
system board.
Pull out on the top left corner of the base assembly to release the power,
USB, and serial connectors.
CAUTION: Do not remove the wireless card, memory module, or processor from the system board.
Remove the system board (see Removing the System Board Assembly .
Disconnect and unroute the power cable.
Remove the power connector from the base assembly.

Replacing the Power Module

Position the DC power cable in the base assembly, aligning the guides on
the connector sides with the base.
Connect the DC power cable to the system board (see illustration in
Removing the Power Module for proper cable routing).
Replace the system board (see Replacing the System Board Assembly ).
Replace the card cage (see Replacing the Card Cage ).
Replace the palm rest (see Replacing the Palm Rest Assembly ).
Replace the right-speaker/fingerprint reader cover (see Replacing the
Right-Speaker and Fingerprint Reader Cover ).
Replace the processor thermal-cooling assembly (see Replacing the
Processor Thermal-Cooling Assembly ).
Replace the keyboard (see Replacing the Keyboard ).
Replace the LED cover (see Replacing the LED Cover ).
Replace the display assembly (see Replacing the Display Assembly ).
Replace the hinge covers (see Replacing the Hinge Covers ).
Replace the optical drive (see Replacing the Optical Drive ).
Replace the hard drive (see Replacing the Hard Drive ).
Replace the bottom of the base assembly (see Replacing the Bottom of the
Base Assembly ).
