Removing the Display Assembly

CAUTION: Before performing the following procedures, read the safety instructions in your Product Information Guide.

NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as the back panel) on the computer.

NOTICE: You must remove the display assembly before you remove the palm rest.

1. Follow the instructions in "Preparing to Work Inside the Computer."
   
   
2. Turn the computer over and remove the two M2.5 x 8-mm screws labeled "D" on the bottom of the computer.
   
   

3. Turn the computer over top side up and open the display (180 degrees) so that is lies flat against your work surface.
   
   
4. Remove the center control cover.
   
   
5. Disconnect the display cable using the pull-tab, and release the cable from the cable-routing guides.
   
   
6. Remove the antenna cable connector from its pocket on the base, and then pull apart the connector.

7. Lift the display straight up out of the computer base.

Removing the Display Bezel

CAUTION: Before performing the following procedures, read the safety instructions in your Product Information Guide.

NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as the back panel) on the computer.

1. Follow the instructions in "Preparing to Work Inside the Computer."
   
   
2. Remove the display assembly.
   
   
3. Use a plastic scribe to pry the six round display bumpers out of the screw holes located on the front of the bezel. It is not necessary to remove the oval bumpers on the sides on the display bezel.
   
   
4. Remove the six M2.5 x 5-mm screws located on the front of the bezel under the bumpers.
   
   

NOTICE: Carefully separate the bezel from the top cover to avoid damage to the bezel.

5. Separate the bezel from the top cover by lifting the inside edge of the bezel away from the top cover.
   
   

NOTE: You may need to use a plastic scribe to begin the separation.

Pull the bezel from the top edge toward the center of the panel to open the snaps. Push the bezel on the sides and bottom away from the center of the panel to open the snaps.

NOTICE: To avoid damaging the bezel, start pulling the bezel up near the bottom of the display (near the Dell logo) and work around the display and toward the release latch.

Removing the Display Panel

CAUTION: Before performing the following procedures, read the safety instructions in your Product Information Guide.

NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by touching an unpainted metal surface on the computer.

1. Follow the instructions in "Preparing to Work Inside the Computer."
   
   
2. Remove the center control cover.
   
   
3. Remove the display assembly.
   
   
4. Remove the display bezel.
   
   
5. Remove the eight M2 x 3-mm screws from sides of the display panel.
   
   

NOTE: The M2 x 3-mm screw located in the top left of the panel should be removed first and reinstalled first.

6. Remove the one M2 x 3-mm screw for the LCD cable ground, which is located at the bottom of the panel.

7. Lift the display panel straight up out of the top cover.
   
   
8. Press in the tabs on both sides of the top display-cable connector, and pull the display cable connector away from the top flex-cable connector.
   
   

NOTE: Do not crimp cables during reinstallation.

9. Use the pull-tab to disconnect the bottom flex-cable connector from the inverter connector.
