Removing the Video Card and Thermal Cooling Assembly

CAUTION: Before performing the following procedures, read the safety instructions in your Product Information Guide.
NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as the back panel) on the computer.
NOTE: If you ordered a video card with your computer, it is already installed.
  1. Follow the instructions in "Before Working Inside Your Computer."

  2. Remove the hinge cover.

  3. Remove the keyboard.

  4. Remove the display assembly.

  5. Remove the palm rest.

NOTE: The video card thermal cooling (heat sink) is part of the video card assembly.
  1. Loosen the four captive screws from the video card and thermal cooling assembly.

  2. Gently pull up the video card and thermal cooling assembly from the system board.

Replacing the Video Card and Thermal Cooling Assembly

  1. Carefully re-align the video card over the connector on the system board and press down.

NOTE: The video card and thermal cooling assembly is labeled "PRESS HERE."

  1. Tighten the four captive screws on the video card and thermal cooling assembly.
