CAUTION: If you remove the hard drive from the computer when the drive is hot, do not touch the metal
housing of the hard drive.

NOTICE: To prevent data loss, shut down your computer before removing the hard drive. Do not remove the hard drive while the computer is on, in standby mode, or in hibernate mode.
NOTICE: Hard drives are extremely fragile; even a slight bump can damage the drive.
NOTE: Dell does not guarantee compatibility or provide support for hard drives from sources other than Dell.
Turn the computer over, and remove the two M2.5 x 5-mm hard drive screws.

Slide the hard drive assembly out of the computer.
NOTICE: When the hard drive is not in the computer, store it in protective antistatic packaging. See "Protecting Against Electrostatic Discharge" in your Product Information Guide.
Removing the Hard Drive from the Hard Drive Carrier
NOTE: Perform these steps if you are replacing individual components instead of a subassembly.
Remove the four M3 x 5-mm screws holding the hard drive in the hard drive carrier.
Lift the hard drive up slightly and slide it out of the carrier.
Disconnect the interposer board connector from the hard drive. Gently pull straight out from
the hard drive. Do not rock the connector side-to-side as you pull.

NOTICE: When removing the interposer board connector from the hard drive, handle the connector carefully to avoid bending the pins.
Installing the Hard Drive in the Hard Drive Carrier
Perform these steps if you are replacing individual components instead of a subassembly.
Remove the new drive from its packaging.
Save the original packaging for storing or shipping the hard drive.
Carefully connect the interposer board connector to the end of the hard drive.
NOTICE: When connecting the interposer board connector to the hard drive, handle the connector carefully to avoid bending the pins.
Insert the new hard drive into the carrier with the label facing up.
Replace the four M3 x 5-mm screws on the sides of the hard drive carrier to secure the hard
drive.
Installing the Hard Drive Assembly
Insert the hard drive assembly into the bay, and push the drive assembly until it is fully seated
in the bay.
NOTICE: Use firm and even pressure to slide the drive into place. If you use excessive force, you may damage the connector.
Replace and tighten the two M2.5 x 5-mm screws.
Install the operating system for your computer.
Install the drivers and utilities for your computer.
