Replacing the 2-in-1 Processor and Memory Board

NOTICE: To avoid electrostatic discharge, ground yourself by using a wrist grounding strap or by periodically touching an unpainted metal surface (such as a connector on the back of the computer).
  1. Follow the instructions in Before You Begin.

  2. Remove the palm rest. See Replacing the Palm Rest.

NOTICE: When the 2-in-1 memory and processor board is not in the computer, store it in protective antistatic packaging (see "Protecting Against Electrostatic Discharge" in the safety instructions that shipped with your computer).
NOTE: The thermal pads may stick to the bottom of the palm rest. Remove the thermal pads from the bottom of the palm rest.

  1. Remove the two thermal pads on the processor.



  1. Place the thermal pads on the new 2-in-1 memory and processor board.

  2. Remove the two M2x4-mm screws that secure the 2-in-1 memory and processor board.

  3. Use your fingertips to carefully spread apart the securing clips on either side of 2-in-1 memory and processor board connector until the board pops up.

  4. Lift the 2-in-1 memory and processor board out of its system board connector.

  5. To replace the 2-in-1 memory and processor board, align the notch in the 2-in-1 memory and processor edge connector with the tab in the connector slot.

  6. Slide the 2-in-1 memory and processor board firmly into the slot at a 45- degree angle, and gently press the 2-in-1 memory and processor board down until it clicks into place. If you do not hear the click, remove the module and reinstall it.

  7. Replace the two M2x4-mm screws that secure the processor.

  8. Replace the palm rest. See Replacing the Palm Rest.

  9. Slide the battery into the battery bay, until it clicks into place and slide the battery-lock latch towards the lock position.

NOTICE: Before turning on the computer, replace all screws and ensure that no stray screws remain inside the computer. Failure to do so may result in damage to the computer.
  1. Update the BIOS using a flash BIOS-update program CD. See Flashing the BIOS".
