The telephony audio cable connects a modem to a sound device to enable the speakerphone
features of the modem. (The cable cannot be used on modems that do not support voice or
that do not have a speaker jack.)
 |
NOTE: In addition to the required hardware (voice modem, audio cable, and
speakers), a telephony software program is necessary. Dell does not currently install
telephony software. |
The modem and the sound device may be connected via an internal or external telephony
audio cable in one of the following configurations.
Internal Audio Cable
For some systems containing Dell-installed modem and sound options, the cable is
configured internal to the system:
External Audio Cable
Some systems use an external audio cable connected on the back of the computer. For
these systems, an external audio cable is included with every modem, whether the modem is
part of the original system or purchased as an upgrade. Modem/sound/external cable
configuration is described in the following table.
| |

No modem |
| Sound card installed |
Connect the external
audio cable from the modem's SPEAKER connector to the sound card's line-in connector. |
No telephony audio cable included or necessary. |
| On-board audio |
