Removing the System Board: Dell Dimension XPS H233 and XPS H266

  1. Disconnect any cables attached to the I/O panel on the back of the computer.
  2. Remove any installed expansion cards.
  3. Remove the 3.5-inch diskette drive.
  4. Remove the secondary hard-disk drive if one is present.
  5. Disconnect all internal cables from the system board.
  6. Remove the 5 screws that secure the system board to the chassis.
  7. Lift the system board out from the plastic standoffs, and remove the board from the chassis.
  8. Place the system board on a level surface.
  9. Remove the SEC cartridge and heat sink assembly.
  10. Using a #2 Phillips screwdriver, loosen the 4 captive nuts securing the guide bracket assembly for the SEC cartridge to the system board. Remove the assembly from the 4 threaded posts.

To install a replacement system board, install the guide bracket assembly for the SEC cartridge. The assembly is keyed for correct insertion. Then install the SEC cartridge and heat sink assembly. Transfer the SIMMs to the new system board, and set the configuration jumpers to match the old system board.

When installing the new system board in the computer, push the system board against the back of the chassis so that the system board makes firm contact with the I/O gasket to prevent EMI leakage.

CAUTION: Failure to install the system board exactly as described may result in EMI leakage that could interfere with other electronic devices.
