There are three connectors on the back panel of the
computer for connecting audio devices:
- A line-out connector (green-colored) for speakers with
integrated amplifiers
- A line-in connector (blue-colored) for record/playback
devices such as cassette players, CD players, and VCRs
- A microphone connector (red-colored) for a personal
computer microphone
For Windows 95 operating systems:
- From the Start menu, select Settings and then Control
Panel.
- Double-click the Multimedia icon.
- Click the Audio tab and move the slide switch for
playback or recording to the desired volume level.
For Windows NT 4.0 operating systems:
- Start the Audio Mixer utility located in the Audio
Control program group or folder.
- Adjust the slide controls labeled "Master" to
adjust the volume and balance for all devices, or adjust
the slide controls for an individual device.
Dell offers a wave-table upgrade module to enhance the musical
instrument digital interface (MIDI) sound capabilities of the
system. The wave-table upgrade module is installed using
connectors J7C1 and J7D1 on the system board.
To reinstall the audio drivers, follow these steps:
- Using the Dell DiskMaker program in the Dell Accessories
folder, make diskette images of the audio drivers stored
on the hard-disk drive.
Two blank diskettes are required.
- Start the Windows 95 operating system.
- When the Update Device Driver Wizard window appears,
click Next.
- Insert the first audio driver diskette into drive A.
- From the dialog box, select drive A and click OK.
The driver files are copied from the diskette to the
hard-disk drive.
- When the Copying Files dialog box appears, prompting for
the location of additional files, insert the second audio
driver diskette into drive A, type a:\, and
click OK.
- After the drivers have been installed, remove the
diskette from drive A and restart Windows 95.
To reinstall the audio drivers, follow these steps:
- Using the Dell DiskMaker program in the Dell Accessories
folder, make diskette images of the audio drivers stored
on the hard-disk drive.
One blank diskette is required.
- Start the Windows NT 4.0 operating system.
- Insert the audio driver diskette into drive A.
- From the Start menu, select Settings and then Control
Panel.
- Double-click the Multimedia icon.
- From the Multimedia Properties window, click the Devices
tab and then click Add.
- From the Add dialog box, select Unlisted or Updated
Driver and click OK.
- From the Install Driver dialog box, type a:\,
and click OK.
- From the Add Unlisted or Updated Driver dialog box,
select OPL3SA Sound System and click OK.
The driver files are copied from the diskette to the
hard-disk drive.
After the drivers have been installed, there will be a new
Audio Control folder containing the two programs Audio Mixer and
Audio Input.
