Using the CD-R/RW Drive : TSST TS-H292B CD-R/RW Drive User's Guide

Operating the DriveCleaning Media

Operating the Drive

All photos show single optical drive configurations. Some systems may also offer the CD-R/RW in a two-drive configuration with the CD-R/RW installed as either the first drive or the second drive.

Drive operation:

Inserting a Disc

  1. Press the Eject button. The disc tray will be ejected.
  2. Place the disc in the center of the tray with the label side facing up.
  3. Press the Eject button. The disc tray will be retracted.

Removing a Disc
  1. Press the Eject button. The disc tray will be ejected.
  2. Remove the disc.
  3. Press the Eject button. The disc tray will be retracted.

NOTE: If an eject prohibit command has been received from the computer, the disc tray will not be ejected even if the Eject button is pressed.

Using the Reader Installed Vertically

To insert a disc in a CD-R/RW drive that is mounted vertically, perform the following steps:

  1. Locate disc holders (4 locations) on disc tray.
  2. Position the disc behind disc holders.
  3. Close the drive by gently pushing in the tray or pressing the eject button.

CAUTION: Only 12 cm discs can be used when the CD-R/RW Drive is installed vertically. Do not place 8 cm discs in the tray when using the CD-R/RW Drive installed in this way.

Usage guidelines

  • Do not press down on the disc tray when opening or closing it.
  • Do not place objects on the disc tray.
  • Never use a damaged, broken, or deformed disc.
  • Do not press the Eject button while the computer is accessing the disc.
  • Keep the disc tray closed when not using the CD-R/RW drive.
  • Do not press the Eject button while the drive is playing a movie. To stop a movie, click the Stop button in the movie player application program.

NOTE : High-speed drives spin the disc at a high rotational speed. If a disc has printing on only half of the disc, or if there is a slight imbalance in the disc, the imbalance is greatly magnified by the high speed, causing the drive to vibrate or produce a fan-like noise. These effects are inherent in the high-speed technology and do not indicate a problem with the drive.
WARNING : The discs in this unit operate at a very high speed!
DO NOT use damaged, cracked or warped discs.
The drive's optical unit may be damaged if they break.

DO NOT use non-standard discs.
Non-standard discs may not play or store data properly.

WARNING: Only drives (such as the TSST TS-H292B) bearing the logo "Compact Disc ReWritable Ultra Speed" can write or erase High-Speed, Ultra Speed, and Ultra Speed Plus CD-RW media.

High Speed, Ultra Speed, and Ultra Speed Plus CD-RW Media may be recognized by their "Compact Disc ReWritable High Speed" and "Compact Disc ReWritable Ultra Speed" logos on the disc label or packaging material, or by the fact that they list recording speeds of "4X to 10X" or, "Up to 10X" for High Speed CD-RW media, "10X to 24X" or, "Up to 24X" for Ultra Speed CD-RW media, and "10X to 32X" or, "Up to 32X" for Ultra Speed Plus CD-RW media.

Attempted writes to High Speed CD-RW media using CD-RW drives NOT bearing the logo "Compact Disc ReWritable High Speed" or "Compact Disc ReWritable Ultra Speed", and to Ultra Speed and Ultra Speed Plus CD-RW media using CD-RW drives NOT bearing the logo "Compact Disc ReWritable Ultra Speed" may result in data loss.

Emergency Ejection

The procedure described below can be used to remove a disc from the CD-R/RW Drive if the Eject button is disabled by software or a power failure occurs.

  1. Turn off the power to the computer.
  2. Insert a steel rod (about 1.3 mm in diameter) into the emergency eject hole and push hard. (A stiff paper clip may be used).
  3. The disc tray is ejected a short distance. Pull it all the way open by hand.

Cleaning Media

  • If dust or fingerprints get on the disc, wipe it with a soft cloth from the center to the edge.
  • Do not use solvents or static repellent. This can damage the disc.

Please read all restrictions and disclaimers.
