Windows NT Driver Files

The following software drivers for Microsoft Windows NT Server 3.x and 4.x are provided on the Dell Server Assistant CD.

File Description
pedge.sys The Windows NT drivers
oemsetup.inf Used by Windows NT setup to add SCSI drivers
txtsetup.oem Used by Windows NT for fresh installation

The Windows NT drivers support:

  • 2 RAID controllers per host system
  • 8 logical drives per adapter
  • 6 non-disk devices per adapter
NOTE: Use SCSI IDs 1 through 6 for non-disk devices.

Installing the Drivers With Window NT

Use this installation procedure if you are installing Windows NT 3.x or 4.x for the first time and you want to include the operating system drivers and utilities.

The directory pathname for the Windows NT 4.0 drivers is \perc\ntdrvrs\nt40. The directory path for the Windows NT 3.51 drivers is \perc\ntdrvrs\nt351.

  1. Create a driver diskette from the Dell Server Assistant CD. See the instructions provided with the Dell Server Assistant CD.
  2. When prompted to choose between standard and custom setup, select Custom Setup.
The installation procedure scans for a disk controller.

  3. Choose S to skip detection.
  4. Select Specify Additional SCSI Adapters.
  5. Choose Other... from the list of displayed devices.
The installation program prompts for the manufacturer-supplied hardware support disk.

  6. Insert the Windows NT installation diskette and follow the Windows NT setup instructions on the screen.

Adding Drivers

If you are already running Windows NT and want to add the Windows NT driver and utilities:

  1. Create a driver diskette from the Dell Server Assistant CD. See the instructions provided with the Dell Server Assistant CD.
  2. Run the Windows NT Explorer. Click on the A (or B) drive to display the contents of the Windows NT installation diskette.
  3. Click on the setup.exe file and follow the instructions on the screen.
This procedure installs the operating system drivers for either Windows NT 3.x or Windows NT 4.x, depending on which version you are running.

  4. You must reboot the computer after the Windows NT drivers installation has completed successfully.

Configuring Logical Drives

Logical drives can be configured on the PowerEdge SCSI adapter via the PowerEdge RAID Console, a RAID management utility in a GUI. The logical drives can be configured in Windows NT using Disk Administrator.
