How to Use the Discs

CD / DVD is a high-density media. Always handle the media with care and keep the CD / DVD clean to ensure readability. Followings are some reminders for handling the CD / DVD media:

  • Never touch the surface of the media. Always use the media edge
  • Clean the media in the direction of edge toward the center. To clean the media in circle direction might cause the loss of data
  • Do not write or labels on the media surface
  • Store the media in cool area. Avoid direct sun light if possible
  • Do not use any chemical, resolution, or cleaning tool to clean the media. Use cleaning tools specially design for DVD-ROM
  • Do not bend the media

The Discs in this unit operate at a very high speed!
DO NOT use damaged, cracked or warped discs. The drive's optical unit may be damaged if they break

DO NOT use non-standard discs. Non-standard discs may not play or store data properly.

Emergency Eject

This drive has a function that allows the CD to be ejected manually if this becomes necessary in an emergency, such as failure of the drive or a power outage.

  1. Turn the power to OFF
  2. Poke a fine-tipped object (such as a straightened heavy duty paper clip) into the small hole above the eject button (See figure 3). The front door will pop open and the disk tray will come partway out.
  3. Pull the front door to open it all the way, then grip the disc tray between thumb and forefinger and gently pull it straight out.

Warning : CD-RW Media

WARNING: Not all drives are capable of writing to all types of CD-RW media. The various CD-RW media types are listed in the table below.

CD-RW Media Type Abbreviated Name Maximum Write Speed
Normal Speed - 4X
High Speed HS 10X
Ultra Speed US or US24 24X
Ultra Speed Plus US+ or US32 24X

In general, the Compact Disc ReWritable logo on the drive identifies the supported CD-RW media types. See the table below.

Drive Logo Normal Speed CD-RW Media Write and Erase Supported? High Speed CD-RW Media Write and Erase Supported? Ultra Speed CD-RW Media Write and Erase Supported? Ultra Speed Plus CD-RW Media Write and Erase Supported?

Compact Disc ReWritable

Compact Disc ReWritable
Ultra Speed

*Generally speaking, drives with the Compact Disc ReWritable Ultra Speed logo do not support writing to and erasing Ultra Speed Plus CD-RW media. However, the current drive does support writing to and erasing Ultra Speed Plus CD-RW media. Note that, although this media type is capable of being written to at up to 32X speed, the current drive write speed is 24X maximum.

Writing and erasing operations include but are not limited to:

  • File drag and drop to the disc
  • File copy to the disc
  • Any other file/data transfer to the disc

Attempted writes to media types that are not supported by the drive may result in data loss.
