46265 and 52712 Upgrading to Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.3.1_03 is required
when running as an applet
The applet does
not open and a blank browser window displays if the computer on which you are
running the applet does not have the Java Plug-In installed in the browser with
Java Runtime Edition (JRE) 1.3.1_03 and global Internet access. If the computer
from which you are running the applet does not have the Java Plug-In installed
in the browser and JRE 1.3.1_03 installed, you are prompted to download the
Plug-In with the appropriate JRE. If you do not have global Internet access to
download the Plug-In, nothing happens and the screen is blank.
To resolve
this issue, make sure that the Java Plug-In and JRE 1.3.1_03 is installed on
the computer running the applet or that computer has global Internet access so
it can automatically download this Plug-In from the Sun Web site. For more
information regarding downloading the Plug-In, see java.sun.com.
48187 Displaying pop-up menus is sometimes
blocked by the taskbar
Due to a
known Java technology issue, when displaying a pop-up menu at the bottom of the
screen, the Windows taskbar blocks the pop-up box.
To resolve
this issue, right-click the taskbar and click Properties, clear the
Always on top option in the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties
dialog box.
For more information on this issue,
refer to java.sun.com.
48837 Discovering hosts not defined in the SNMP
discovery range
EMC VisualSAN
utilizes several in-band and out-of-band discovery techniques to discover and
represent SAN devices. In some instances, devices that do not have their IP
address entered in the discovery range will be displayed in the application on
the Topology Map and in the SAN Devices list with the unmanaged
host icon. A future release may provide an option to discover only the devices
listed in the SNMP discovery range.
49706 Authenticating not working on computers
with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0
Computers
with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0 or SQL Server may be unable to connect to the
database. This issue is due to the database configuration. For computers on
which SQL Server 7.0 or SQL Server 2000 is installed, set the Authentication Method to Mixed Mode. This setting enables
connection by either Windows Authentication or SQL Server Authentication.
For more
information on this issue, refer to msdn.microsoft.com.
50522 Dragging an object across the map causes a
blinking effect
Some video
cards and/or driver software combinations may result in the map flickering
during a drag operation, due to the inability of that combination to support graphics
backing store.
50606 Displaying Excluded Devices on the
Discovered tab of the SNMP Discovery
If a user
excludes an IP address for a device that has already been discovered and
displayed on the Discovered
tab of the SNMP Discovery Settings
dialog box, the IP address still displays on the Discovered tab of the SNMP Discovery Settings dialog box even though it
should be excluded from the discovery process. Once a device has been
discovered, the application does not automatically remove it from monitoring.
To remove the
device from the discovery process, re-enter the SNMP Discovery Address
range and exclude the IP address of the device you want to exclude. Through
Windows Services, restart VisualSAN-DM.
51033 Failing to load the applet locally
The applet
does not successfully load when it is run without a Web server (to run without
a Web server, double-click the application HTML file (visualsan.html)
located in [installation_directory].
This issue is due to a known Java technology limitation that occurs when
there are spaces in the path. For more information, see
http://developer.java.sun.com.
To correct
this issue, you can either:
- Install the application to a directory with no spaces. For
example, C:\EMC\VisualSAN
- Copy the following directories and HTML file from the
[installation_directory] to a location that does not contain spaces. For example, C:\EMC.
NOTE: The best practice is to run the
applet from a Web server.
51076 and 57528 Displaying a blank parent window
or closing a browser window after opening a new window from the applet
When running
the applet in a browser, creating a new browser window from the applet using File, New, and Window, or <CTRL><N> causes the parent
window to display nothing or to close. This command causes a new browser window
to open with the same URL as the parent window, thus destroying the applet
previously running (parent).
In Internet
Explorer, use the browser's program executable to open a new browser window. In
Netscape Navigator, only one version of the applet can run at a given time.
51380 Opening Netscape Navigator is sometimes
unsuccessful
Running under
Netscape Navigator 6.2, after opening several management URLs from the applet, the
applet window freezes and becomes unresponsive. To correct this issue, restart
the applet.
51683
Opening a shortcut Web link is unsuccessful
Due to a
known Microsoft issue, clicking a shortcut link from the application, such as
the Management URL, does not open the link in the browser window. A browser
window opens, but the browser does not open the shortcut.
For
information on how to correct this issue, log on to support.microsoft.com, type the
article number (six characters preceded by the letter Q) in the Search box in the left frame and
click Search . The
Knowledge Base article number for this issue is Q175306.
52340 Zoning not supported on McData switches
Zone
visualization and control are not supported on McData switches. Zoning is
supported on Brocade switches. See Supported
Devices and Device Managers
in this document for more information.
52753 Under
Windows 2000 Advanced Server, console-based applications behave unexpectedly
Applications
that launch a console window designed for input and output can exhibit problems
when run under Windows 2000 Advanced Server. The problems, such as the display
of a blank console window and the inability to accept input, are unrelated to
the operation of EMC VisualSAN but appear when the console application is
launched using the Management
tab in the Device Properties
dialog box or the Manage
command on the device's shortcut menu in the Topology Map. If you experience
these problems, modify the syntax that starts the application so that cmd /c start cmd /c
precedes the name of the executable file. For example:
cmd /c start cmd /c "C:\Program Files\Dell\OpenManage\Bridge Manager\DELL ServerLaunch.exe"
53327 Displaying PM devices as Obsolete
Occasionally,
devices in the PM SAN Device List
or Tree may display
under the Obsolete
heading. This issue may occur when all services are starting up and is due to
synchronization between the repository manager (RM) and performance module (PM)
services. The RM discovers the devices before PM has started. After PM starts,
it rediscovers devices and checks the PM database for obsolete devices. Waiting
5 to 10 minutes should resolve this issue and display devices under the
appropriate heading.
53522 Allowing incorrect URL formats
In the Value field on the Add a Property dialog box, you can
type a URL in a nonstandard or incorrect format, such as http://.
This problem is due to a known issue with the Java technology. As a solution,
the application displays a Message
box that gives suggestions for entering a URL in the appropriate format.
Previously, this message box stated that only entries in the following formats
were allowed, http://<domain> and https://<domain>.
These formats are the suggested and most typical formats, although you can
enter an address using other standard protocols, and because of the Java technology,
you can enter a URL in an incorrect format.
For more
information on this issue, refer to java.sun.com.
55883 Managing hosts that are not part of the
SNMP community
If a user
changes the community name after the application has completed discovery, the
system continues monitoring the devices already discovered, until the VisualSAN-DM
service is restarted. After the VisualSAN-DM service is restarted, the devices
turn critical and can be deleted from the Topology
Map. This issue will be addressed in a future release.
56416 Printing
from the Topology Map temporarily shifts the focus to another application
This issue
occurs when the print job is spooling and causes another application window to
temporarily become active. After spooling is complete, EMC VisualSAN regains
the focus and becomes the active window.
56642 Selecting an expanded group does not
highlight members on the Topology Map
This issue
occurs when a group is expanded on the Topology
Map and you select a group name under the Groups heading in the SAN Device List or Tree. The devices in the group are
not highlighted on the map. The application is functioning as designed.
To highlight
devices within a group when the group is expanded on the Topology Map:
- From the SAN Device List
or Tree , select all the
devices in the expanded group. Notice that the devices are highlighted on the Topology Map.
To display the
devices as one unit on the map:
- With the Topology Map
pane displayed or from the SAN Device
List or Tree,
right-click a device in the group and click Collapse.
57188 Number of Standby
Power Supplies attributes value is incorrect
When power supplies are removed from a
Dell | EMC storage array, the attribute “Number of Standby Power Supplies” in
the properties page is not dynamically updated to display 0.
57608 Cluster SNMP agent does not report dynamic
data
In order for EMC VisualSAN to gather
updated Cluster information, restart the Windows SNMP Service on each cluster
node.
57776 Not all components
are available for Custom Reports
The following subcomponents are not
available for Custom Reports: Fabric, Controllers/Storage Processor, Virtual Disks,
Links, Loops, Groups, Tape Systems (Tapes are under Storage Systems), Unmanaged
Storage, and Unmanaged Adapters. These components will be available for custom
reports in a future release.
57695 Clicking the <Tab> button does not
advance the cursor
Due to the
design of the Java technology, if you use the <Tab> key to move through a
dialog box and ultimately a table, the active cursor stays within the table. To
move the cursor outside of the table and to text fields or buttons, press
<Ctrl><Tab> to move forward or <Ctrl><Shift><Tab>
to move backward.
58878 Dell PowerVault 660F Device Manager Known
Issues
EMC VisualSAN does not report status
for HBAs on the Dell | EMC SAN.
This issue will be addressed in a future release.
* When enabling the PowerVault 660F Device Manager (DM in EMC
VisualSAN) , performance degradation may occur.
Problem: The
Array Manager agent contains a large amount of information that EMC VisualSAN
processes. As a result, the user may observe some performance degradation in
the PowerVault 660F Device Manager.
Solution: No
known solution at this time.
* PowerVault 660F shows up as "PV660F (wwnn)" instead of
"PV660F (asset tag)."
Problem: A
discovery operation may display the worldwide name for the PowerVault 660F
subsystem instead of the asset tag number.
Solution: The
asset tag is not set for the first enclosure. In Array Manager, right-click the
enclosure and select "Asset Setting." Set the asset tag, and then
reinstate a discovery in EMC VisualSAN.
* Virtual disks may not appear.
Problem: When
using Array Manager 3.1.2, the virtual disks on a PowerVault 660F subsystem may
not be discovered in EMC VisualSAN.
Solution: Apply the latest Array
Manager SNMP agent patch available at support.us.dell.com
or upgrade to Array Manager 3.2.
* SNMP may abort when Array Manager is installed.
Problem: When
using Array Manager, the master SNMP agent may stop responding or abort.
Solution: Apply the latest Array
Manager SNMP agent patch available at support.us.dell.com.
* Performing a rescan in Array Manager may cause all PowerVault 660F
subsystems and their components to change to a critical state.
Problem: When
a rescan is performed in Array Manager, the data required by EMC VisualSAN to
monitor the PowerVault 660F may not be available. In this case, all of the
PowerVault 660Fs that are discovered may change to a critical state.
Solution:
After the rescan is completed in Array Manager, manually initiate a discovery
in EMC VisualSAN or wait until the next status polling cycle. The devices
should return to their normal state. This problem may improve by upgrading to
Array Manager 3.2.
* Array disks may not have the serial number populated, and/or
serial numbers may appear and disappear.
Problem:
Array Manager has a known issue whereby array disk serial numbers may not be
reported for some disks.
Solution: No
known solution at this time.
* The virtual disk layout (RAID type) may be incorrectly reported.
Problem:
Array Manager may incorrectly report the RAID level of a virtual disk.
Solution:
Apply the latest Array Manager SNMP agent patch available at support.us.dell.com.
* The virtual disk target ID may be incorrectly reported.
Problem:
Array Manager may incorrectly report the target ID of a virtual disk.
Solution: No
known solution at this time.
* Array disks disappear.
Problem: When
an array disk fails or is removed, it disappears from the list rather than
changing to a critical state.
Solution: If
the array disk is not used in a virtual disk and the array disk is removed or
fails, it disappears from the list. This behavior is consistent with Array
Manager design.
* PowerVault 660F enclosure asset settings are not being saved.
Problem:
After adding an enclosure to a subsystem and then setting the asset tag, a
rescan does not display the asset tag number.
Solution: To
set the enclosure asset tag, first reset the controller and then change the
asset tag setting.
Problem: When
the connection is lost to both PowerVault 660F controllers in an array, Array
Manager does not give an indication that it cannot communicate with the array.
Solution:
Dell is investigating this problem. To determine if Array Manager lost
communication with an array, perform a PowerVault 660F subsystem rescan. If
communication was lost, the PowerVault 660F array will be removed from the
console.
* No enclosures appear under the PowerVault 660F subsystem.
Problem: It
is possible that the Fibre Channel array might not discover some of the
PowerVault 660F Fibre Channel arrays if any of the controllers has not
completed the boot process.
Solution: In Array Manager, right-click
PV660F SubSystem and select Rescan.
* PV224F connections not represented on topology
map.
When using the Show Enclosures
menu for a PV660F from the Topology Map, physical link between
enclosures will not be represented.
* PV660F status does not get updated until rescan
if done from Array Manager.
The status of the PV660F storage array
will not be updated in EMC VisualSAN until a rescan is done the OpenManage
Array Manager.
58889 EMC
VisualSAN License Server service logs error message in Windows Event Log
Due to a FLEXlm technology design issue, when the EMC VisualSAN License
Server service is manually stopped, an erroneous error logged the Windows Event
Log. Please disregard this error.
59411 HBA status does
not get updated on the Dell | EMC SAN
EMC VisualSAN does not report status for HBAs on the Dell | EMC SAN.
This issue will be addressed in a future release.
59807 Displaying device polling error
in the DMerr.txt file
The following
is an example of an error that may be logged to the
DMerr.txt
file if the global polling rate is set too quickly or too often for the Dell |
EMC devices to respond.

60438 Print Map dialog
box has inconsistencies
- The margins cannot be changed from
the Margins section of the dialog box; users must click the Page
Setup button to change the margins.
- The Print Background option
does not apply to EMC VisualSAN.
- Page numbers do not print even if the
Print Page Number option is checked.
60967 EMC
VisualSAN requires a C drive even if application is not being installed on C
drive
Due to a FLEXlm technology issue, EMC VisualSAN
requires that a C drive exist to run properly. The application does not need to
be installed on the C drive. The License Manager requires that a C drive exist
on the system to function properly.
61350 Some PowerVault 650F and
Dell | EMC Storage array SNMP traps are not reformatted in EMC VisualSAN
In these cases, the
trap will be displayed with the CLARiiON Event Code that you can look up in
the device manual.
61394 Error received when adding single device to map
When using the Add Device option
on the map toolbar, if the user leaves SNMP selected, enters an IP
address, clicks the Apply button, and then clicks the OK button,
then an error is received. An error is also received when the user enters an IP
Address, clicks Apply, enters another IP, and clicks the Apply
button again.
4875 User interface becomes unresponsive or application runs out of memory
Larger SANs impose greater memory requirements on the application and may affect performance
or cause the application to run out of memory .
To resolve this issue, it is necessary to change the maximum size of the memory allocation pool.
The maximum size must be entered in bytes and be a multiple of 1024.
In an application environment, the application will become unresponsive when the maximum memory size is exceeded.
You can still interact with the application, however some functions will not respond. To correct this issue, increase the default
maximum memory from 128MB. If, for example, you want to increase the maximum memory to 256MB, follow these steps:
- Edit startui.bat located in [installation_directory]\server_batch_files\.
- Edit the start command to read:
start %JAVAEXE% -Xmx256m com.emc.vsan.app.MainApp
- Save the file and restart the application.
In an applet environment, an "OutOfMemory" error is logged to the Java console. If the console is not displaying,
a Java icon displays in the status bar. To view the error, double-click the icon. The default maximum memory when running as an
applet is 64MB. If, for example, you want to increase the maximum memory to 128MB, follow these steps:
- Open the Java Plug-in control panel. In Windows 2000, from the Start menu,
point to Settings and click Control Panel. Double-click Java Plug-in.
- On the Basic tab, under the Java Run Time Parameters heading, type
-Xmx128m in the textbox.
- Click Apply to save.
- Close the browser and restart the applet.
NOTE: System configurations and size of SANs vary. A larger SAN may require more memory. Before making any changes to the application configuration, make sure that your system configuration (physical and virtual memory) can support this increase.
62290 EMC VisualSAN does not support install/uninstall
through Terminal Services
Installing and uninstalling the application are not available when using terminal services.
To uninstall or reinstall the application, you must use the management station.
62455 WINS server cached information conflicts with
hostname changes
When changing the hostname of a host or
appliance, the name should be changed on the local machine as well as in the
DNS server. If a WINS server is also being used for name resolution, then the
active registration of the old hostname may not expire for a long period. In
this case, a new object will be created in EMC VisualSAN with the new hostname.
The object bearing the old hostname will remain in OK status until that
hostname cannot be resolved to its IP address.
62584 Not able to
delete or unmanage discovered devices unless they are in a critical status.
EMC VisualSAN does not allow
users to delete discovered devices unless they are in a critical state.
To delete devices from the Topology
Map, add the IP address of the device you want to delete in the Exclude
tab of the SNMP Discovery Settings dialog box, and then restart the VisualSAN-DM
service. The excluded devices should go to a critical state, allowing you to
delete them.
62741
Traps are not always received if a host has multiple IP addresses
If a host has multiple IP addresses and all are not listed in the discovered range, the application may not receive SNMP traps
from the unlisted IP addresses.
For example, suppose a host has two IP addresses, IPone and IPtwo, within the discovered range. IPtwo
is the last IP
address in the host list and the one used in VisualSAN for the IP host. However, IPone is in the discovered list and not IPtwo,
so when a trap is received from the host (IPtwo), the trap is dropped because the IP address is not coming from an IP address
in the discovered list.
62754 Delay in updating host status on large SAN
configurations
If a large SAN configuration is
discovered in EMC VisualSAN (for example, 24 servers and 6 to 10 storage
arrays), it might take twice the polling interval for EMC VisualSAN to update
the status of a host that goes down or gets shut down.
63144 List of ports available for alias/zoning in Zone
Explorer needs to be limited
When creating an alias/zone from Zone
Explorer with the default World Wide Port Zoning method, all ports from all
discovered devices are displayed in the available list even when user is
working in the context of a specific fabric.
63146 LCC Modules are included as items to be zoned in Zone
Explorer
The Storage Array LCC Modules are
included in Zone Explorer, but these elements cannot be added to a zone alias
or a zone. When selecting the LCC to be added to a zone or a zone alias, a Java
Null Pointer Exception occurs. This issue will be addressed in a future release.
63286 Time delay of discovered devices
Currently, there is no
warning that the discovery of SAN devices will take longer than the progress
meter shows.
When an initial
discovery is made, a progress meter is located at the bottom of the screen,
indicating when the discovery is complete. However, the discovery may take
several extra minutes to fully complete. For example, the status meter may say
100% complete when the discovery is not yet complete.
63448 DAEs connected on different buses are not connected
correctly on the map
When two or more DAEs are connected to
an FC4700 DPE, they show as daisy chained instead of connected to two different
buses.
63479 EMC VisualSAN user
interface stops responding intermittently
Closing and re-opening the user
interface can resolve this intermittent behavior.
63557 PowerVault 650F
controller firmware is not updated dynamically
The EMC VisualSAN services must be
restarted in order for the application to reflect a PowerVault 650F firmware
update.
67394 Buttons displaying in locale language
On Windows systems, if the Regional Setting locale is set to one of the
ten Sun supported languages, some VisualSAN buttons will display in the selected language.
VisualSAN uses Sun widgets for some of the dialog boxes. These widgets are used to implement localization.
To display application buttons in English, make sure that the Regional Setting locale is set to English (United States).
67413 Zone control is not supported on the Java applet
When running EMC VisualSAN on a Java applet, zone control is
not supported, however zone visualization is supported on the Java applet. If the
applet is running on the same computer on which the application services are
running, then zone control is supported.
67897 Reports not opening
If you select a report format that is not associated with an application, you will not be able to open the report
from VisualSAN. In Windows, make sure that the report formats you are using are associated with an application.
For more information, refer to Windows help on associating a file extension with a file type.
67903 Configuring the CX400, CX600 and FC4700
VisualSAN represents the CX600 and FC4700 with the recommended backend cabling configuration,
which does not necessarily represent your physical configuration.
Please verify that your backend cabling and enclosure ID's follow the recommended Dell | EMC configurations.
4804 Internet Information Services (IIS) becomes disabled; applet unreachable
IIS may become disabled after installing the EMC Navisphere 6.2 software package and restarting your computer.
If IIS is becomes disabled, it might be a Windows server configuration issue. Refer to the EMC Control Center
Navisphere Manager Version 6.2 Installation Sheet on how to configure the Windows management server to use an alternate set of
TCP/IP ports. The EMC Control Center Navisphere Manager Version 6.x Installation Sheet is part of the EMC Control Center
Navisphere Manager product documentation.
4803 Adding a device to a zone alias
When you add a zone-enabled device to a zone or zone alias through the Zone Control options
on the Topology Map, all Aliases or Zones in the application are displayed for selection. However,
you may only select the zone or zone alias of the fabric to which the selected device belongs. You cannot add a device
to an alias in a different fabric.
4754 Accessing the database
If you are experiencing performance issues when viewing the Event Log or, if you cannot access the database,
trim the database using the Trim Event Log Now button on the Event Settings dialog box.
The Trim Event Log Now button immediately removes data from the database according to the number of days you enter. If you click OK
or Apply and not Trim Event Log Now, the database is trimmed at midnight according to the number of days you enter. The default setting
for trimming the database is 15 days.
4743 Editing the SNMP Read Community name
If you make any changes to the SNMP Read Community name on the SNMP Discovery Settings dialog box,
you must restart VisualSAN-DM in the Windows Services control panel.
4748 Setting the polling rate
To ensure that devices are polled according to their defined polling rate, the polling rate must either be
equal to the heartbeat rate, or a denominator of the heartbeat rate. For example, the default heartbeat rate is 5 minutes,
therefore you can set the polling rate to 2.5 minutes.
The heartbeat generates an event that notifies
a user that a device is online and working. A heartbeat is useful when a device's status does not change and, therefore,
no status events are generated. The hearbeat rate must be a multiple of the polling rate; it is intended to be the maximum amount
of time allowed without hearing from a device.
The heartbeat rate is defined in a system file. If you are unsure about the heartbeat rate, contact your system administrator.
4595 Management
URL does not open a browser
When Internet Explorer is the default
browser and you are running EMC VisualSAN as an application, a management URL
with an extension of .html or .htm will not open a browser. For example, the
following URL will not open a browser and will display an error: http://<domain>/index.html
To avoid this issue, do not enter management URLs with trailing
htm or html extensions, for example http://<domain>/index.html
4474 Pointer changes to a wait cursor
If users
select performance devices from the Topology Map and then select PM
Setup, the cursor may change to a wait cursor. Users can still work within
the application, but the wait cursor does not revert to a pointer arrow.
4850 Unable to discover
the PowerVault 128T Tape Library
EMC VisualSAN requires that the SNMP
community of PUBLIC be added as one of the community names to discover the
PowerVault 128T tape library.
4851 Unable to discover
the Dell | EMC FC4700 Storage Array
EMC VisualSAN requires that the SNMP
community of PUBLIC be added as one of the community names to discover the Dell
| EMC FC4700 storage array.
4853 Zoning from the Zone Explorer does not differentiate
between two PowerVault 650F systems with same serial number.
The PowerVault 650F serial number can
be changed to be unique using the FCLI tool.
4916 Cursor remains as a pointer after performing a drag and drop
This issue occurs on dialog boxes that have the drag and drop capability (New Alias, New Zone,
New ZoneSet).
From the main list, if the user selects multiple items using the Ctrl key and then drags the items to the sub list, the items will move
to the new list correctly. However, if the user releases the Ctrl key while dragging the items to the sub list, the cursor remains as
a pointer and becomes unresponsive. To correct this issue, press the Esc key.
3201 Unable to run other
Java applets on the remote EMC VisualSAN station with Internet Explorer
The Java Runtime Edition (JRE)1.3.1_03
is required to run the application remotely as an applet using Internet
Explorer. If there are other applications on the remote station that require a
JRE older than 1.3.1, the “Java (SUN)” option should be unchecked from the Internet
Explorer/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced tab.
55904 Using more than 20 zone colors causes colors to repeat
Currently,
the zone visualization feature in EMC VisualSAN supports using up to 20 zone
colors. Using more than 20 colors causes the colors to repeat.
To add more
than 20 colors:
-
Edit [installation_directory]\config\app\CustomColors.properties
- Under the Zone Visualization section, for each zone color you are
adding, type ZoneVizColor21 =, ZoneVizColor22 =, and so on until you reach
the number of zone colors required.
- For each ZoneVizColor, use one of the suggested color values. Click
here to see a table of suggested colors.
4213 Polling uses the global polling rate and not the device specific
rate
If a
Device-Specific Polling Rate, defined on the Polling tab of the Device
Properties dialog box, is the same as the Global Polling rate, the
Device-Specific Polling Rate will change if the Global Polling Rate changes.
For example, suppose that the Device Specific Polling Rate is 5 minutes and the
Global Polling Rate is 5 minutes. If the Global Polling Rate is changed to 10
minutes, the Device-Specific Polling Rate is also changed to 10 minutes.
If
a device is part of multiple networks, EMC VisualSAN might launch the device
management URL against the wrong IP address. In this case, users must go to the
server’s properties page and edit the EMC VisualSAN Console Management URL.
3457 Using keyboard
shortcuts unsuccessful
Due to a
problem with Java applets, the focus is transferred to a browser and not to the
applet when a dialog box is closed. To regain keyboard focus in the applet and
allow use of accelerator keys, click the mouse within the applet window.
2954 Communicating with the Login service and proxy server is
unsuccessful
When the property DB_DBMS
in system.properties is set to FreeTDS, the application and applet cannot communicate with the Login service and
proxy server. This issue is due to a security setting that restricts the JDBC
driver from creating a socket to communicate with the SQL Server.
This issue
has been corrected by opening the default port for MSDE, port 1433. If the SQL
Server uses a port other than 1433, you need to:
-
Edit the DB_PORT in [installation_directory]\config\nm\system.properties and the config\nm\java2.policy with the new correct port
number.
-
Run CreateTables.bat in server_batch_files
- In Windows, stop and restart the MS SQL Server service.
2975 Zoning
objects with the same name cause exceptions
Exceptions may occur when two zoning
objects have the same name, but different capitalization (for example,
ZoneAlias and zonealias). This issue occurs when the database configuration is
not set to case sensitive. If you are using an existing installation, you must
change the database configuration to be case sensitive. A new installation will
correctly set this parameter.
To configure the database:
- In a command prompt window, change to the directory containing MSSQL7\binn.
- Type osql -E. Press Enter.
- Type sp_configure 'show advanced option', 1. Press Enter, type
Go, and press Enter.
- Type reconfigure. Press Enter, type
Go, and press Enter.
- Type sp_configure. Press Enter, type
Go, and press Enter.
-
Check the database configuration parameters; if default
sortorder id equals 52, proceed to next step. If it equals 51, type quit.
- Type sp_configure 'default sortorder id', 51. Press Enter, type
Go, and press Enter.
- Type reconfigure. Press Enter, type
Go, and press Enter.
- Type sp_configure. Press Enter, type
Go, and press Enter.
- To fully commit the changes, in Windows, stop and restart the MSDE
service.
2160 Opening the applet
page is sometimes unsuccessful
Due to a known Microsoft Windows NT
issue, on some systems after you double-click the applet page, a message
displays stating that the file cannot be found.
For information on how to correct this
issue, log on to support.microsoft.com,
Type the article number (six characters preceded by the letter Q) in the Search box in the left frame and
click Search . The Knowledge
Base article number for this issue is Q166389.
2948 Exceptions are logged
on closing the browser window
If you close the browser window after
running the applet, exceptions concerning unexpected closure of callback
connections might be generated in the RM diagnostics log file (RMerr.txt).
This occurs because the browser terminates its Java Virtual Machine (JVM)
before the applet has completed its cleanup process. Nevertheless, the services
detect this unexpected connection closure and properly handle cleanup of the
service-side resources related to the connection closure.
1364 Resizing the applet
window causes the applet to freeze
Due to a Java technology issue, on rare
occasions when running the applet on Netscape Navigator 6.2, resizing the
applet window causes the applet to freeze.
For more information, refer to http://developer.java.sun.com/developer/bugParade/bugs/4492880.html.
1071 Failing to connect
application to the database
On computers using an MSDE database, a
known Microsoft issue prevents services on some machines from connecting to the
SQL Server. This issue occurs after restarting. To correct this issue, restart
MS SQL Server.
For more information on this issue, log
on to support.microsoft.com. Type the article number (six characters
preceded by the letter Q) in the Search box in the left frame and click Search.
The Knowledge Base article numbers for this issue are Q160871 and Q311111.
Computers with Microsoft SQL Server 7.0
or SQL Server 2000 may experience database errors when trying to log into the
database. This problem also causes the application services to continually
fail. This issue occurs when installing SQL Server 7.0 or SQL Server 2000 from
a remote Terminal Server Client. SQL Server 7.0 and SQL Server 2000 do not
support this type of installation.
For more information on this issue, see
support.microsoft.com.
2371 Missing or Displaying
invalid data for JNI devices
The JNI SNIA code does not provide some
property information for JNI devices; therefore, the Device Properties dialog box displays
an invalid Port Number, Vendor, and Firmware version for JNI devices.
1778 Modifying secondary
switches allowed
Due to a Brocade design configuration,
in a multi-switch fabric the application locks only the principal switch and
not any secondary switches within that fabric. This setup allows different
users to simultaneously modify a fabric via this application and other
applications.
To avoid this issue, do not modify a
fabric in another application while a user is modifying it in this application.
Fabric login data
must be entered through the Zone Settings dialog box
In order to do zone control, the device
manager associated with the switch must be able to monitor the fabric. Monitoring
requires entry of valid login information in the Zone Settings dialog box. Any changes to login user
name or password must be made in this dialog box, located under the Settings menu. If you specify new
login information externally (for example, using Telnet or an HTML interface), you will not be able to
perform zone control because, without valid login information, the device
manager cannot monitor the fabric.
