Overview Data CLI
architecture
The Dell OpenManage Data CLI is a command line interface to Dell OpenManage
Data Agent for NT and an alternative to Dell OpenManage Data Supervisor or Dell
OpenManage Data Administrator. You can use it to manage Dell PowerVault 650F
or 651F storage system connected to a Windows NT server on the network. With Dell
OpenManage Data CLI for NT, you can configure, control, and retrieve status from the
storage systems. You can also use it to automate array management functions by writing
batch files that incorporate the omcli command.

Throughout this guide we use the following
terms:
- Data CLI for Dell OpenManage Data CLI for NT
- Data Agent for Dell OpenManage Data Agent for NT
- Data Integrator for Dell OpenManage Data Integrator
- Management station for a host running Dell OpenManage Data Manager software
- Managed array or array for a storage system that is managed by Dell OpenManage

- Array server for a host connected to the managed array runs the Dell OpenManage

Data CLI can run on an array server or the management station. Since it is an array
management tool, you may want to install it on the management station.
The following figure illustrates a Data CLI environment in which the management station
is not an array server. From this management station, you can use Data CLI to
manage all the arrays connected to the Windows NT servers on the network
Figure 1-1. Dell OpenManage Data environment with a management station that is
not an array server
The following figure illustrates a Data CLI environment in which the management station
is also an array server. From that management station, you can use Data CLI to manage the
arrays connected to the management station as well as the arrays connected to the other
Windows NT array servers on the network.

also an array server
Data Organizer communicates with a Data Agent on the same or other servers on the
network. The management station and the remote Data Agents for NT communicate with each
other over a TCP/IP network. Data Agent uses a SCSI protocol over a Fibre Channel
arbitrated loop (FC-AL) to communicate with the Licensed Internal Code (LIC) running in an
array's storage processors (SPs).The following figure illustrates interaction of Data CLI,
Data Agent, and LIC.

servers
