###################################################################### DELL(TM) REMOTE ACCESS CONTROLLER/MODULAR CHASSIS (DRAC/MC) ###################################################################### This document contains updated information about the Dell Remote Access Controller/Modular Chassis 1.0. For more information about the DRAC/MC, including installation and configuration information, see the "Dell Remote Access Controller/Modular Chassis User's Guide." This document is located on your "Product Documentation" CD. ###################################################################### TABLE OF CONTENTS ###################################################################### This file contains the following sections: * Criticality * Minimum Requirements * Supported Systems * Supported Managed Server Operating Systems * Known Issues for DRAC/MC * User Notes ###################################################################### CRITICALITY ###################################################################### 3 - Optional ###################################################################### MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS ###################################################################### The following subsections list operating systems that are compatible with the DRAC/MC. ====================================================================== SUPPORTED SYSTEMS ====================================================================== DRAC/MC is supported on the following Dell PowerEdge(TM) systems: * PowerEdge 1855 ====================================================================== SUPPORTED MANAGED SERVER OPERATING SYSTEMS ====================================================================== The DRAC/MC is independent of any installed operating system on the modular servers. DRAC/MC has its own Web-based user interface and does not require an operating system to be installed. ====================================================================== SUPPORTED WEB BROWSERS ====================================================================== * Microsoft(R) Internet Explorer 6.0 on Windows(R) * Mozilla 1.5 (or later) on Red Hat(R) Enterprise Linux(R) * Netscape Navigator 7.02 and 7.1 on Windows and Red Hat Enterprise Linux NOTE: When you upgrade the DRAC/MC firmware, you should delete temporary Internet files. If you are using Internet Explorer on systems running Microsoft Windows(R), perform the following steps to delete the temporary files: 1. In Internet Explorer, select the "Tools" menu and click "Internet Options". 2. On the "General" tab, click "Delete Files". 3. To the confirmation message, click "OK". ###################################################################### KNOWN ISSUES FOR DRAC/MC ###################################################################### The following subsections list the known issues regarding the implementation and operation of the DRAC/MC: * Only one telnet session is supported in this version of DRAC/MC. If you attempt more than one telnet session, the DRAC/MC does not provide a notification indicating that the only connection for telnet is already in use. * The text mode console redirection feature of DRAC/MC is not available for the Windows 2000 server operating system. It is supported with Microsoft Windows 2003 server. ###################################################################### USER NOTES ###################################################################### * The "upload.exe" program that is supplied with the DRAC/MC firmware update package is used only with the Firmware Recovery Console in case of firmware corruption. Refer to the "Dell Remote Access Controller/Modular Chassis User's Guide" for instructions on using the Firmware Recovery Console. * The DRAC/MC Web-based user interface or the serial racadm command line interface can be used for a standard TFTP-based firmware update by using the "mgmt.bin" binary file. * The following is a list of features available on the DRAC/MC. Your system may have updates that enable additional features. Refer to the latest "Dell Remote Access Controller/Modular Chassis User's Guide" on the Dell Support website at "support.dell.com". * Remote management and monitoring of a system through the DRAC/MC Web-based graphical user interface (GUI), serial connection, or telnet connection. * Telnet text console redirection feature that allows you to directly access the DRAC/MC managed modules. * Access to the chassis System Event Log (SEL) and DRAC/MC logs. * Integrated launch of the DRAC/MC interface from the Dell OpenManage(TM) IT Assistant. * Ability to alert you to potential problems on the DRAC/MC by sending either an e-mail message or an SNMP trap through the DRAC/MC NIC to a management station. * Ability to configure the DRAC/MC and update DRAC/MC firmware using a telnet session, a web-based user interface, or through a terminal session (for example, a hyperterminal or similar program). * Ability to perform power management functions such as shutdown and reset, from a telnet session. * Web-based interface password-level security management. * Role-based authority that provides assignable permissions for different systems management tasks. ###################################################################### Information in this document is subject to change without notice.
