Dell installs the Broadcom ASF Management Application on portable
computers that support ASF. This software is available on the Dell ResourceCD
in case you need to reinstall the Broadcom ASF Management application.
The setup.exe file automatically installs the following software
components:
ASFCFG A control panel program that installs the Graphical User Interface (GUI) for
the Broadcom ASF Management Application (an ASFCFG icon is added to the Control Panel). This component
allows for the local configuration of ASF support.
BRCMGroup A WMI provider that allows WMI applications to configure ASF
via CIM methods.
ASFIpMon A Windows Service utility that detects changes to the NIC's IP
address, subnet mask, and default gateway and updates this information in the
ASF-enabled NIC. This utility synchronizes the operating system IP address with the Broadcom ASF
Management Application and is useful for DHCP environments.
NOTE: The WMI Provider Core Version 1.5+ must be
present on the client computer in order for the Broadcom ASF Management Application
to be installed.
NOTE: Once the WMI Provider Core has been
installed in a system, you cannot remove the WMI Provider Core. Its presence should not adversely affect any other software or hardware.
NOTE: The WMI Core Provider is included with Windows XP and
Windows 2000.
The installation program automatically detects if the correct WMI software is present. If
the correct WMI software is not present, the installation program instructs you to install the Microsoft WMI Provider and then exit.
If necessary, download the WMI Provider Core from www.microsoft.com,
install it on your system, and continue installing the agent.
