Setting up a Configuration Profile Using Windows XP

Before you begin be sure to have the required network information from your system administrator. (See Before You Begin).

Setting up a Configuration Profile Using Client Manager

To set up a configuration profile, perform the following steps on every computer you want on your wireless network:

  1. Make sure that your TrueMobile 1150 Series PC Card is installed.
  2. Start Client Manager by clicking Start->Programs->Dell TrueMobile 1150->Client Manager.

  3. Click Actions and then click Add/Edit Configuration Profile.
  4. On the Add/Edit Configuration Profile screen select the first profile and name it (you can leave it as Default as well). Select Access Point.

  5. Click Edit Profile, and when the Edit Configuration screen appears, type the Network Name (on the Basic tab) and the  Encryption Key(s) (on the Encryption tab).

     

  6. Click OK three times to complete the configuration profile.

Setting up a Configuration Profile Using Windows XP

On Windows XP, edit your profiles through Windows instead of through Client Manager. Perform the following steps on every computer you want on your Wireless Network:

  1. Make sure that your TrueMobile 1150 Series PC Card is installed.
  2. Click Start, then click Control Panel.
  3. Click the Network and Internet Connections icon. (If not found, click the Switch to Category View icon and then click the Network and Internet Connections icon.)
  4. Click the Network Connections icon.
  5. Right-click the Wireless Network Connection icon and select Properties.
  6. Click the Wireless Networks tab.
  7. Enable the Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings option. Perform one of the following:
    • To manually add a profile to your preferred network list, click Add and then type your Network Name(SSID) and Network Key.
    • To add an available network to your preferred network list, select a network from the Available networks list and click Configure.
    • To automatically connect to any non-preferred network, click Advanced and enable Automatically connect to non-preferred networks.
  8. Click OK twice to complete the setup.
  9. For more information on how to set up the configuration profile and 802.1x authentication, please click Start then Help and Support, perform a search on "wireless networks" or "802.1x". In the Pick a task list, select the topics. Follow the setup instructions that appear.
