Installing the Software
Inserting the Dell TrueMobile WLAN PC Card into Your Notebook

NOTE—If you did not purchase this device with a new Dell notebook, start at step 1. If you did purchase this device with a new Dell notebook, skip to step 2.

To complete the setup of your Dell TrueMobile WLAN PC Card, perform the following steps:

  1. Install the software (drivers and utility).
  2. Insert the device into the notebook.
  3. Configure your wireless network.

Installing the Software

NOTEDo not insert the WLAN PC Card into the notebook until after you have completed installing the software.

  1. Insert the Dell TrueMobile WLAN PC Card compact disc (CD) into the CD-ROM drive or DVD drive of your notebook.
  2. If the Main Menu screen appears automatically, select Install software, and click OK. If the Main Menu screen does not appear automatically, click Start, click Run, type x:\setup.exe (where x is the CD-ROM or DVD drive letter of your notebook), and click OK.
  3. Click Next, then click Finish. You are now ready to insert the Dell TrueMobile WLAN PC Card into your notebook.

Insert the Dell TrueMobile WLAN PC Card with the Dell TrueMobile label side up into the PC card slot in the notebook as shown (see Figure 2). The Found New Hardware Wizard detects and installs the device. When this process is completed, the Wireless Network Connection icon appears in the taskbar notification area (Windows XP environment) or system tray (Windows 2000 environment).

You are now ready to configure a wireless network profile (see Completing the Setup).

When storing your Dell notebook, remove the Dell TrueMobile WLAN PC Card from the notebook by pushing in the ejector button on the side of the notebook next to the PC card slot. The card may be removed at any time, whether the notebook is on or off. If the notebook in on, however, first click Unplug or Eject Hardware in the notification area (Windows XP environment) or system tray (Windows 2000 environment). You may reinsert the card at any time when the notebook is not being stored, whether the notebook is turned on or off.
