Use the control buttons on the front of the monitor to adjust the characteristics of the image being displayed. As you use these buttons to adjust the controls, an on-screen menu system (OSD) shows their numeric values as they change.

Use these buttons to adjust (decrease/increase ranges) items in the OSD.

buttons
Use these buttons with the OSD to move the (highlighted) selection within menus, and to select sub-menu items. These buttons are also direct access buttons for the Brightness and Contrast control menu.

MENU
The MENU button is used to open the on-screen menu (OSD), exit from menus and sub-menus, and to exit the OSD. See Accessing the Menu System.

VIDEO button and Indicators
Use this button to select between two different video signals that may be connected to your monitor.
Video 1 is for use with an analog input, while Video 2 is for use with a digital input. An indicator light glows green below the number (1 or 2) indicating which input is active on the flat panel display screen.
A confirmation dialog will also be flashed on-screen confirming either:
1: Analog Input
or
2: Digital Input
During startup, these lights will toggle as the monitor looks for a signal. If no signal is found, lamp #1 will glow green and #2 will glow amber.
The floating 'Dell - Self Test Feature Check' dialog will also appear on-screen (against a black background) if the monitor cannot sense a video signal.

Auto Adjust
Use this button to activate automatic setup and adjustment. The following dialog will appear on a black screen as the monitor self-adjusts to the current input:

Note: Auto Adjust will not occur if you press the button while there are no active video input signals, or attached cables.

Power Indicator & Power Button
The power indicator lights steady green. The LED is steady amber for DPMS. If the LED is blinking, see the Power-saving modes list for which state is indicated.
Even though your computer system can recognize your new flat panel monitor on startup, the 'Auto Adjustment' function will optimize the display settings for use with your particular setup. Auto Adjustment can be accessed through the OSD* or, you may use the direct access instructions below:
Turn on your computer and monitor.
Push the 'Auto Adjust' button (E) to activate the Auto Adjustment function. The screen will turn black and you will see the following dialog:

When finished, the screen will present the current image, including an optimized settings.
*: From the Main OSD Menu, selecting 'Image Settings' will take you to the 'Image Settings' submenu...from here you can also activate the Auto Adjust feature, by pressing the '+' button on the front of the monitor.
Brightness:
The Brightness function adjusts the luminance of the backlight of the flat panel.
With the menu off, push the button to display the Brightness (and contrast) adjustment menu.
Adjust Brightness first, then adjust Contrast only if further adjustment is necessary.
Push the + button to increase luminance;
push the - to decrease luminance (min. 0 ~ max 100).
Contrast:
The Contrast function adjusts the degree of difference between darkness and lightness on the monitor screen.
With the menu off, push the button to display the Contrast (and brightness) adjustment menu.
Push the + button to increase the contrast;
push the - button to decrease the contrast (min. 0 ~ max 100).

Push the and buttons to move between the function icons. As you move from one icon to another, the function name is highlighted to reflect the function or group of functions (sub-menus) represented by that icon. See the table below for a complete list of all the functions available for the monitor.
Push the MENU button once to activate the highlighted function; then use the + and - buttons or the and buttons, according to the indicators on the menu, to make your changes.
Push the Menu button once to return to the main menu to select another function or push the Menu button two or three times to exit from the OSD.

Description
OSD Lock
'OSD Lock' controls user access to adjustments. When 'Yes' (+) is selected, no user adjustments are allowed, except for A/B input toggle, auto adjust and 'unlock'. Specifically, the direct access buttons to brightness and contrast are disabled. Select 'No' (-) to unlock and allow user access to all applicable settings.
Note: When the OSD is locked, pressing the menu button will take the user directly to the OSD settings menu, with 'OSD Lock' preselected on entry.
Auto Adjustment
Auto Adjustment (bezel icon/button) allows the monitor to self-adjust to the incoming video signal. After using Auto Adjustment, you can further tune your monitor by using the Pixel Clock (Coarse), Phase (Fine) and Scaling adjustments.
The Phase, Pixel Clock and Scaling adjustments allow you to more closely adjust your monitor to your preference. These settings are accessed through the main OSD menu, by selecting 'Image Settings'.
Use the - and + buttons to adjust away interference. Minimum: 0 ~ Maximum: 255
If satisfactory results are not obtained using the Phase adjustment, use the Pixel Clock (course) adjustment and then use Phase (fine), again.
Note: This function may change the width of the display image. Use the Horizontal function of the Position menu to center the display image on the screen.
Scaling optimizes the display for the type of software you are using. Includes '1:1', 'fill' and 'aspect'.
Scaling smoothes an image which may help the eye to see more detail.
'1:1' ...this means the image will be displayed 'as-is', without any change to size.
'fill' ...this will result in the image filling the screen, regardless of proportions...changes and/or distortion can occur in the image quality and original height/width.
'aspect' ...this selection will fill the screen, horizontally, while maintaining the original height~width ratio.
Note: 'Auto Adjust' will produce the best image for your configuration.
Positioning:
Horizontal Vertical
Zoom
Positioning moves the viewing area around on the monitor screen.
When making changes to either the 'Horizontal' or 'Vertical' settings, no changes will occur to the size of the viewing area....the image will simply be shifted in response to your selection/change. The image may be shifted approximately one inch horizontally, and one and one half inches vertically.
Maximum is '100' (+). Minimum is '0' (-).
When making changes to the 'Zoom' settings, you will first need to 'zoom' in, or magnify the image on the screen...then, you can move the image left, right, up and down, using the '-' and '+' buttons accordingly.
Note: A quick way to return the image back to normal size is to simply navigate to the 'Factory Reset' menu, and then select and reset 'Position Settings Only'.
Color Settings:
R(ed) G(reen) B(lue)
Color Settings adjusts the color hue and saturation.
The color hue is most noticeable in areas of white.
Use the plus and minus buttons to increase or decrease each of the three colors independently, in single digit increments, from '0' to '100'.
Note: Color temperature is a measure of the 'warmth' of the image colors (red/green/blue). The available range is between 6500 to 9300K. The two available presets (9300 and 6500) favor blue and red accordingly. Select each one to see how each range suits your eye....or utilize the 'User Preset' option to customize the color settings to your exact choice.

All
Reset controls return the settings to the factory preset values for the selected group of functions.
Position ... changes the settings for Image Position (on screen).
Color ... changes the RGB settings back to their original factory settings.
All ... all user adjustable settings are reset at one time.
Language:
English, Español, Français, Deutsch, Japanese
Language sets the OSD to display in one of five languages.
Note: The language chosen affects only the language of the OSD. It has no effect on any software running on the computer.
OSD Hold Time:
5 ~ 60 seconds user configurable
The OSD stays active for as long as it is in use.
OSD Hold Time sets the length of time the OSD will remain active after the last time you pressed a button.
Use the - and + buttons to adjust the slider in 5 second increments, from 5 to 60 seconds.
OSD Position:
Horizontal Vertical
Each time the OSD opens, it displays in the same location on the screen. 'OSD Settings' (horizontal/vertical) provides control over this location.
With the OSD open, if you make an adjustment and then either proceed to another menu, or exit the OSD, the monitor automatically saves any adjustments you have made. If you have made no adjustments, the on-screen menu disappears and the monitor does not save any new settings.
Exit leaves this submenu without resetting any values.
Position Settings Only resets the settings for horizontal/vertical Position.
Color Settings Only resets the Red, Green and Blue Color Control settings to their original factory settings.
All Settings returns your monitor settings to those that were set at the time of manufacture. This includes color, position, clock frequency, phase, language, brightness, contrast and OSD hold time.
Note: There is no "Undo" when you use the Reset function. To return to the previous function settings, you must adjust the functions again.
A warning message may appear on the screen indicating that the monitor is out of sync.
Cannot Display This Video Mode
This means that the monitor cannot synchronize with the signal that it is receiving from the computer. Either the signal is too high or too low for the monitor to use. See Specifications for the Horizontal and Vertical scan ranges addressable by this monitor. Recommended mode is 1280 X 1024 60Hz.
Note: The floating 'Dell ~ Self Test Feature Check' dialog will appear on-screen if the monitor cannot sense a video signal.
Occasionally, no warning message appears, but the screen is blank...this could also indicate that the monitor is not synchronizing with the computer.
