Post Beep Codes: Dell Dimension XPS P60 FS

If the computer is unable to boot, it may emit a series of beeps to aid in identifying the problem. A single beep during boot is normal. This is not a beep code unless the boot fails. The solution steps are given in the order in which they should be tried, trying the boot again after each step.

Beeps Cause (failure) Solution Steps
1 Memory refresh failure Perform visual inspection. Reseat SIMMs. Replace system board.
2 Memory parity error Perform visual inspection. Reseat SIMMs. Replace SIMM in socket J3J1. Replace system board.
3 Memory failure in first 64 KB Perform visual inspection. Reseat SIMMs. Replace SIMM in socket J3J1.
4 Timer failure or memory failure in first 64 KB Perform visual inspection. Reseat SIMMs. Replace SIMM in socket J3J1. Replace system board.
5 Microprocessor error Perform visual inspection. Replace microprocessor chip.
6 Gate A20 failure Perform visual inspection. Replace system board.
7 Microprocessor-exception interrupt error Perform visual inspection. Replace microprocessor chip.
8 Video memory error Perform visual inspection. Replace video adapter card.
9 ROM checksum error Perform visual inspection. Replace system board.
10 NVRAM shutdown register failure Perform visual inspection. Replace system board.
11 Cache memory error Perform visual inspection. Replace system board.
