When using MS-DOS utilities, use the pathname c:\dell\util instead of the pathname listed in the Reference and Troubleshooting Guide or Installation and Troubleshooting Guide.
Installing Trackball/Mouse Device Drivers
Do not install trackball/mouse drivers for Windows 95. The Plug and Play capabilities of Windows 95 provide built-in trackball/mouse support. Refer to the Windows 95 documentation for detailed information.
Referencing the Dell PC-CardCentral Utility
Dell's PC-CardCentral utility that ran under Windows 3.x is no longer needed with Windows 95. The Plug and Play capabilities of Windows 95 provide built-in PC card support. Refer to the Windows 95 documentation for detailed information about PC card support and troubleshooting information.
Using the Replicator Connection Utility (Dell Latitude XP and XPi Only)
CAUTION: If connected to a network, close all application programs that access the network before disconnecting from the replicator. Failure to close network applications can cause loss of data.
When a Dell Latitude XP or XPi computer is connected to or disconnected from an Advanced Port Replicator, Windows 95 recognizes the hardware configuration changes and reconfigures the system software accordingly. Windows 95 then notifies all the active application programs of the changes. When all the application programs have responded, the Dell Latitude XP or XPi enters a special connection mode.
To assist with connecting or disconnecting a computer from the replicator, Dell provides a Replicator Connection utility. Always use the Replicator Connection utility when connecting or disconnecting a notebook computer from the replicator.
Access the utility by clicking the Start button, pointing to Programs Dell Accessories, and clicking Replicator Connection. Alternatively, double-click Dell Accessories on the desktop, and then click Replicator Connection. For immediate accessibility, add the utility as an option directly on the Start menu.
To add the Replicator Connection utility as an immediate option on the Start menu, follow these steps:
1. Use Windows Explorer to locate the SetupRC utility in c:\dell\wincpl.
2. Double-click SetupRC to launch the utility. Click Add to install a shortcut to the Replicator Connection utility in the Start menu.
Using the Suspend-to-Disk Utility
To use the Suspend-to-Disk utility, restart the computer in MS-DOS mode. See Running the Computer in MS-DOS Mode.
At an MS-DOS prompt, follow the instructions for using the Suspend-to-Disk utility in the Reference and Troubleshooting Guide or Installation and Troubleshooting Guide, substituting the pathname c:\dell\util for the one listed in the guide.
Viewing the Battery Status Utility
Check the status of your battery at any time without exiting your software application or opening a window by using the Dell Battery Status icon.
In Windows 95, the Battery Status icon is visible at all times in the taskbar at the bottom right of the Windows 95 desktop. To view the capacity of the battery, point the cursor at the Battery Status icon. After a moment, a message stating the capacity of the battery is displayed.
For Dell Latitude XP and XPi systems, an option to view the amount of time remaining for the battery can be set. To do this, right-click the Battery Status icon and click Show Time Remaining.
