NOTE: To replace parts, follow the steps below in reverse.
Removing the Cover
Removing the Cover
1. Turn off the AC power and unplug the DC power cable.
2. Unscrew the cover-mounting screw on the back of the computer.
3. Disengage the 2 snaps on the bottom of the chassis.
4. Slide the cover straight back 1 or 2 inches, and tilt the
cover up and back to pivot the cover from the chassis.
Removing/Replacing the Front Bezel
1. Remove the cover.
2. Facing the computer's front panel, press in on the 4 tabs at the top and on both sides
of the bezel.
3. Tilt the bezel toward you, and pull it away from the
chassis.
Removing/Replacing the 5.25-Inch Plastic Front-Panel Inserts
1. Remove the cover.
2. Remove the front bezel.
3. Hold the bezel so that you are facing its interior.
Reach around to the front of the bezel, and pop out the front-panel insert toward you.
Removing/Replacing the 3.5-Inch Plastic Front-Panel Insert
1. Remove the cover.
2. Remove the front bezel.
3. Hold the bezel so that you are facing its interior.
Press against the tab on each side of the insert until the insert snaps out.
Removing/Replacing the Metal Inserts
1. Remove the cover.
2. Remove the front bezel.
3. Hold the insert in place while using a 1/4-inch nut
driver to unscrew the screws that secure the insert to the computer.
NOTE: If the computer has only 1 drive in the 5.25-inch drive bay, the user will need to
remove all the inserts and bend them at the perforation lines
until they snap apart.
Removing/Replacing a Drive in an External 5.25-Inch Drive
Bay
1. Remove the cover.
2. Remove the front bezel.
3. Remove the plastic inserts if needed.
4. Remove the metal inserts if needed.
5. Remove the DC power cable and the interface cable from the back of the drive.
6. To remove the drive, squeeze the tabs on each side of the drive, and slide it forward
and out of the drive bay.
NOTE: When sliding the new drive into its drive bay, make sure that both drive rail tabs
snap into place. If they do not, adjust the position of each drive rail by loosening the
screws and sliding the drive rail forward or backward as needed.
Removing/Replacing a Drive in an External 3.5-Inch Drive Bay
1. Remove the cover.
2. Remove the front bezel.
3. Remove the plastic inserts if needed.
4. Unscrew the 2 screws that secure the front of the 3.5-inch drive bracket to the
computer.
5. Slide the 3.5-inch drive bracket toward the back of the computer to disengage the 6
mounting tabs on the drive bracket from the slots at the top of the 3.5-inch drive bay.
6. Unscrew the 2 screws on each side of the 3.5-inch drive bracket, and slide the drive
out of the bay.
Removing/Replacing a Hard-Disk Drive
1. Remove the cover.
2. Disconnect any cables from the back of the drive.
3. Remove the screw securing the drive assembly to the
chassis, and raise the bracket away from the power supply.
NOTE: Lay the computer on its side to remove the hard-disk drive.
4. Remove the 2 screws that secure the hard-disk drive to the hard-disk
drive bracket
5. Slide the drive out of the bracket.
Removing/Replacing the Power Supply
1. Remove the cover.
2. Disconnect the DC power cables from the system board, from any drives, and from any
expansion cards.
3. Remove the front bezel.
4. Remove the drive-bracket mounting screw that secures the hard-disk drive bracket to the
computer's back panel, and raise the bracket away from the power supply.
5. While holding the hard-disk drive bracket up, remove the 2 screws that secure the power
supply to the back panel and the 2 screws that secure the power supply to the chassis.
Lift the power supply out of the computer.
NOTE: Lay the computer on its side to remove the power supply; holding the hard-disk drive
bracket and removing the power supply at the same time can be difficult.
Removing/Replacing the Card Guide Assembly and
Components
1. Remove the cover.
2. Disconnect any cables connected to any expansion cards installed in the expansion
slots, and remove the expansion cards.
3. Remove the front bezel.
4. Remove the 2 screws that secure the power button assembly
to the front panel of the computer, and move the power button out of the way.
5. Disengage the card guide assembly by pressing inward on the 2 mounting tabs that secure
the card guide assembly to the front panel.
6. Disconnect the cables for the hard-disk drive access indicator assembly, the power
indicator assembly, and the reset button assembly from the system board, and then lift the
card guide assembly out of the computer.
Removing/Replacing the Serial- and Parallel-Port Cable
Assemblies
1. Remove the cover.
2. Disconnect any peripheral device that is connected to the back of the computer.
3. If necessary, disconnect the DC power and interface cables from the back of any
hard-disk drives, remove the drive-bracket mounting screw that secures the hard-disk drive
bracket to the computer's back panel, and raise the bracket out of the way.
4. Disconnect the serial- or parallel-port cable assembly from its connector on the system
board.
5. Remove the 2 screws that secure the cable assembly's I/O connector to the computer's
back panel.
Removing/Replacing the Reset Button Assembly
1. Remove the cover.
2. Remove the front bezel.
3. Disconnect the reset button cable from the reset button connector on the system board.
4. Thread the cable through the ferrite cylinder attached to the card guide.
5. Use a small screwdriver to push the reset button assembly through its bracket in the
card guide and into the interior of the computer.
Removing/Replacing the Heat Sink Assembly and
Microprocessor
1. Remove the cover.
2. Remove any expansion cards that block access to the microprocessor.
3. Remove the microprocessor securing clip from the microprocessor/heat sink assembly.
Press on the back of the clip with a small screwdriver to release it.
4. Push outward and then upward on the microprocessor release
lever to rotate it to its fully vertical position.
5. Lift the microprocessor/heat sink assembly out of its socket.
6. Use the dented corner of the chip to orient the replacement chip in the same direction
as the chip removed.
Removing/Replacing the Battery
