Storage Devices
The drive cage at the front of the computer holds up to 3 user-accessible, half-height 5.25-inch storage devices. The internal hard-disk drive bracket next to the power supply holds either one 1.625-inch drive or two 1-inch drives.
The system board provides a primary EIDE hard-disk drive interface (PRI IDE), a secondary EIDE device interface (SEC IDE), and a diskette/tape controller (FLOPPY or J8G1).
The secondary EIDE interface is for use with EIDE devices such as tape drives or CD ROM drives.
NOTE: Without special drivers, MS-DOS will not recognize more than 2 physical hard-disk drives. There are no drivers available to allow this system to recognize more than 2 EIDE hard-disk drives.
Both EIDE interfaces support LBA mode, PIO mode3, and PIO mode4 data transfers.
Hard-Disk Drive Cooling Fan
The hard-disk drive cooling fan assembly is installed only if a large, high-capacity hard-disk drive is installed in the hard-disk drive bracket (typically a SCSI 700-MB or larger hard-disk drive).
