SMC FDC37C93XFR Super I/O Controller: Dell Dimension P133v, P166v, and P200v
SMC FDC37C93XFR Super I/O Controller: Dell Dimension P133v,
P166v, and P200v
Control for the integrated serial ports, parallel port,
diskette drive, RTC, and keyboard controller is incorporated into
a single component, the SMC FDC37C93XFR. This component provides:
- 2 NS16C550-compatible UARTs with
send/receive 16-byte FIFO
- Multimode bidirectional parallel port
- Standard mode; IBM- and
Centronics-compatible
- Enhanced Parallel Port (EPP) with
BIOS/driver support
- High-speed mode; Extended Capabilities
Port (ECP)-compatible
- Industry-standard diskette drive
controller with 16-byte data FIFO (2.88-MB diskette drive
support)
- Integrated RTC accurate within +/-13
min/yr
- Integrated keyboard/mouse controller
- Microsoft Windows 95-compliant
The FDC37C93XFR is normally configured
automatically by the BIOS, but configuration of these interfaces
also is possible using the CMOS Setup utility that can be invoked
during system start-up. The serial port can be enabled as COM1,
COM3, or disabled. The parallel port can be configured as
compatible, bidirectional, ECP, or disabled. The diskette drive
interface can be configured for 1.2-MB, 5.25-inch media or for
1.44-MB, 3.5-inch media. The ATX form factor eliminates the need
for cables to parallel and serial ports by incorporating them on
the system board, along with tidying up the cabling to diskette
drive and EIDE devices through better placement of the diskette
drive and EIDE headers.
