ISA/IDE Accelerator (PIIX3)
The Intel� 82430VX PCI chip set consists of the 82437 PCI
Bridge (TVX) and the 82438 Datapath (TDX), which is split into 2
chips, representing a single load on the Pentium� system bus.
The 82371SB PCI ISA/IDE Accelerator (PIIX3) bridge, which is not
part of the 82430 VX chip set, provides the connection of ISA to
PCI bus.
82437 PCI Bridge
(TVX)
The TVX is a low-cost I/O subsystem that provides
high-performance PCI bus transfers to the Pentium processor. The
TVX comes in a 208-pin QFP package and provides the following
features:
- Synchronous Pentium/PCI bus interface that
supports either 50 MHz, 60 MHz, or 66 MHz
- Converts back-to-back sequential PCI
memory writes to PCI burst writes
- Supports 4 PCI bus masters in addition to
an I/O bridge
- Supports write-back caching with 256-KB
and 512-KB pipelined burst SRAM
- Support for SDRAM and EDO DRAM
The TDX is the interface between the system memory and the
Pentium bus. The TVX PCI bridge and the TDX datapath work
together to provide a high-performance memory subsystem for
Pentium-based systems. Two 100-pin QFP TDX components are
required on the system board.

- 4 cache line-size read/write buffers
The 82371SB provides the interface between the PCI and ISA
buses and integrates a dual-channel fast EIDE interface capable
of supporting up to 4 devices. The 82371SB integrates four 8-bit
and three 16-bit DMA channels, three 8-bit timer/counters, two
8-channel interrupt controllers, PCI-to-AT interrupt-mapping
circuitry, NMI logic, ISA refresh address generation, and PCI/ISA
bus arbitration circuitry together onto the same device. The
PIIX3 comes in a 208-pin QFP package.
