EIDE Support: Dell Dimension P133v, P166v, and P200v
EIDE Support: Dell Dimension P133v, P166v, and P200v
The system board provides 2 independent
high-performance bus-mastering PCI EIDE interfaces capable of
supporting PIO Mode-4 devices. The system BIOS supports logical
block addressing (LBA) and extended cylinder sector head (ECSH)
translation modes as well as AT API devices on both EIDE
interfaces. The system BIOS automatically detects the EIDE device
transfer rate and the translation mode capability.
In the Microsoft Windows 95 operating system, a driver
provided by Intel allows the EIDE interface to operate as a PCI
bus master capable of supporting PIO Mode-4 devices with transfer
rates up to 22 MB/sec while minimizing the system demands upon
the processor. Normally, programmed I/O operations require a
substantial amount of microprocessor bandwidth. In true
multitasking operating systems like Windows 95, the
microprocessor bandwidth freed up by using bus-mastering EIDE can
be used to complete other tasks while disk transfers are
occurring.
