Base/Board Memory

The XPS systems support four 32-bit (72-pin) SIMM sockets (designated bank 0 through bank 3). The system supports from 4 to 64 MB of system RAM, using the following SIMM sizes:

  • 4 MB, organized as 1 MB x 32 bits (nonparity)
  • 16 MB, organized as 4 MB x 32 bits (nonparity)

The SIMMs are rated at 70 ns or better. The SIMM sockets have tin-lead contacts, rather than the more expensive gold contacts. At least one of the bank 0 through bank 3 sockets must be populated for the system to operate. See Installing Memory for a table of valid memory configurations.

Installing Memory

System RAM is upgradable to 64 MB by installing combinations of 4- and 16-MB SIMMs.
