NOTE: To replace parts, follow the
steps below in reverse. |
Removing
the Cover
- Turn off the power and unplug the power cable.
- Unscrew the 1 cover-mounting screw on the back of the
computer.
- Disengage the 2 snaps on the bottom of the chassis.
- Slide the cover straight back 1 or 2 inches, and tilt the cover up and back to
pivot the cover from the chassis.

the front bezel cover.
- Facing the system unit's front panel, press in on the 4 tabs at the top and on both sides
of the bezel.
- Tilt the bezel toward you, and pull it away from the
chassis.
- Remove the cover.
- Remove the front-panel insert.
- Hold the bezel so that you are
facing its interior.
Reach around to the front of the bezel,
and pop out the front-panel insert toward you.
- Remove the cover.
- Remove the front bezel.
- Hold the bezel so that you are
facing its interior.
Press against the tab on each side of the
insert until the insert snaps out.
- Remove the cover.
- Remove the front bezel.
- Hold the insert in place while
using a 1/4-inch nut driver to unscrew the screws that
secure the insert to the system unit.

NOTE: If the system unit only has 1
drive in the 5.25-inch drive bay, the user will need to
remove all the inserts and bend
them at the perforation lines until they
snap apart. |
- Remove the cover.
- Remove the front bezel.
- Remove the plastic inserts, if
needed.
- Remove the metal inserts, if needed.
- Remove the power cable and the interface cable from the
back of the drive.
To remove the drive, squeeze the tabs
on each side of the drive, and then slide it forward and out of
the drive bay.

NOTE: When sliding the new drive
into its drive bay, make sure that both drive rail tabs
snap into place. If they do not, adjust the position of
each drive rail by loosening the screws and sliding the
drive rail forward or backward, as needed. |
- Remove the cover.
- Remove the front bezel.
- Remove the plastic inserts, if needed.
- Unscrew the 2 screws that secure the front of the 3.5-inch drive bracket to the
system unit.
- Slide the 3.5-inch drive bracket toward the back of the
system unit to disengage the six mounting tabs on the
drive bracket from the slots at the top of the 3.5-inch
drive bay.
- Unscrew the 2 screws on each side of the 3.5-inch drive
bracket, and slide the drive out of the drive bracket.
Remove the cover.
- Disconnect any cables from the back of the drive.
- Remove the screw securing the drive
assembly to the chassis, and raise the bracket away
from the power supply.

NOTE: Lay the system on its side
to remove the hard-disk drive. |
- Remove the 2 screws on each side of the hard-disk drive
bracket that secure the drive to the bracket.
- Slide the drive out of the bracket.
- Remove the cover.
- Disconnect the DC power cables from the system board,
from any drives, and from any expansion cards.
- Remove the front bezel.
- Remove the drive-bracket mounting screw that secures the
hard-disk drive bracket to the system unit's back panel,
and raise the bracket away from the power supply.
- While holding the hard-disk drive bracket up, remove the
2 screws that secure the power supply to the back panel
and the 2 screws that secure the power supply to the
chassis.
- Lift the power supply out of the system unit.

NOTE: Lay the system on its side to
remove the power supply, because holding the hard-disk
drive bracket and removing the power supply at the same
time can be difficult. |
- Remove the cover.
- Disconnect any cables connected to any expansion cards
installed in an expansion slot, and remove the expansion
cards.
- Remove the front bezel.
- Remove the 2 screws that secure the power push-switch
assembly to the front panel of the system unit, and move
the power push-switch out of the way.
- Disengage the card guide assembly by pressing inward on
the two mounting tabs that secure the assembly to the
front panel.
- Disconnect the cables for the hard-disk drive access
indicator assembly, the power indicator assembly, and the
reset button assembly from the system board, and then
lift the card guide assembly out of the system unit.
- Remove the cover.
- Remove the front bezel.
- Disconnect the hard-disk drive access or power indicator
assembly from its connector on the system
board.
- Thread the cable through the ferrite cylinder attached to
the card guide.
- Use a small screwdriver to push the hard-disk drive
access or power indicator assembly through its light pipe
on the card guide and into the interior of the system
unit.
- Remove the cover.
- Disconnect any peripheral device that is connected to the
back of the system unit.
- If necessary, disconnect the power and interface cables
from the connector on the back of any hard-disk drives,
remove the drive-bracket mounting screw that secures the
hard-disk drive bracket to the system units back panel,
and raise the bracket out of the way.
- Disconnect the serial or parallel port cable assembly
from its connector on the system board.
- Remove the 2 screws that secure the cable assemblys I/O
connector to the system units back panel.
- Remove the cover.
- Remove the front bezel.
- Disconnect the reset button cable from the reset button
connector on the system board.
- Thread the cable through the ferrite cylinder attached to
the card guide.
- Use a small screwdriver to push the reset button
push-switch through its bracket in the card guide and
into the interior of the system unit.
- Remove the cover.
- Remove any expansion cards that block access to the
microprocessor.
- Remove the heat sink securing clip
from the microprocessor/heat sink assembly.
- Press on the back of the clip with a small screwdriver to
release it.
- Push outward and then upward on the microprocessor socket release lever
to rotate it to its fully vertical position.
- Lift the microprocessor/heat sink assembly out of its
socket.
- Use the dented corner of the chip to orient the
replacement chip in the same direction as the chip
removed.
- Remove the cover.
- Pry the battery out of its socket with a blunt,
nonconductive object.
- Remove the cover.
- Remove the front bezel.
- Disconnect the cooling fan cable from the connector on
the system board.
- Remove the screw that secures the cooling fan bracket to
the system unit, and remove the fan and bracket.
- Remove the cover.
- Disconnect any cables attached to the port connectors on
the I/O panel.
- Disconnect the any cables attached to the system board.
- Remove any expansion cards.
- Remove the 6 screws that secure the system board to the
bottom of the system unit.
- Lift the left edge of the system board up and out of the
system unit.
