Assigning a Setup Password
Operating with a Setup Password Enabled
Changing an Existing Setup Password
Disabling a Forgotten Password

The password features provide a basic level of security for data on the system. However, these features are not foolproof. If the data requires more security, it is the user's responsibility to obtain and use additional forms of protection.

Assigning a Setup Password
Use the following procedure to assign a setup password:
1. Turn on the system, and press <DEL> when prompted to enter the system setup program.

2. Press the <ALT-P> key combination to move to Page 2 of the system setup screens and highlight the
   SETUP PASSWORD category.

3. Use the left- and right-arrow keys to change the heading to ENABLED.

4. Press <ESC> to exit the system setup program and reboot the system.

5. Press <DEL> immediately after booting to enter the system setup program.

6. Type Y when the system displays the following message:

Do you want to have a password (Y or N)?

7. Type the password.

You can use up to six characters, including spaces, in the password.

The password-assignment operation does not recognize keys as lowercase or uppercase.

Certain key combinations are not valid. If you enter an invalid key combination, a beep will sound.

To escape from the field without assigning a system password, press <ESC>.

8. Press <ENTER>.

9. To confirm the password, type the password again and then press <ENTER>.

Operating With a Setup Password Enabled
When you enter the system setup program with a setup password enabled, the system requires that you type in the correct password at the prompt below:
Please enter your setup password:

After entering the correct setup password and pressing <ENTER>, Page 1 of the system setup screens appears.
The password feature allows for a wrong or incomplete setup password up to 3 times, and then the system displays the following message:
Sorry, the password entered is incorrect.

Sorry, you tried too many times. You must reboot.
Even after the system is turned off and on, the previous message is displayed each time an incorrect or incomplete setup password is entered.

Changing an Existing Setup Password
To disable an existing password, perform the following steps:
1. Boot the system.

Disabling a Forgotten Password
If the setup password is not known, the user will be unable to operate the system or change settings in the system setup program until the password is disabled.
Disabling the password involves opening the computer and changing a jumper setting (twice) on the system board.
To disable a forgotten password, perform the following steps:
1. Turn off the system and remove the cover.

2. Remove the jumper plug from the PASS_WD jumper.

3. Replace the cover and turn on the computer to erase the existing password.

4. Turn off the computer and remove the cover.

5. Replace the jumper plug.

6. Replace the computer cover and turn on the computer.

9. To assign a new password, follow the procedure in "Assigning a Setup Password."
