Automatic Configuration
Automatic Configuration
This option helps inexperienced users configure the DAC960PL with just a few keystrokes. It can be used only when the DAC960PL has between three and eight drives connected to it. An error message is displayed if less than three or more than eight drives are detected, and the automatic configuration is then aborted.
This option creates a single pack using all the drives, and it creates a single RAID 5 system drive with a user-selectable write policy for the system drive. The system drive number is 0.
NOTES: Hot-spare drives cannot be assigned using the AUTOMATIC CONFIGURATION option. The AUTOMATIC CONFIGURATION option causes all drives to be assigned to a single physical pack, leaving no unassigned drives available for the hot-spare function.
If this option is selected, and a valid configuration exists, a warning window
is displayed. This window warns users about any existing configuration and requires a confirmation to proceed.
The user may select NO to return to the MAIN MENU. If YES is selected, and if the number of drives detected by DAC960PL is between three and eight (all of same size), a window similar to the one in Write Cache Policy
is displayed. At this point, the user is prompted to select the write policy for the system drive that is to be created. Selecting NO will set the write policy of the system drive to WRITE THRU. Selecting YES will set it to WRITE BACK.
Once the appropriate option is selected, the configuration is saved, and a screen similar to Created Configuration
is displayed. This screen provides information about the configuration created. Pressing a key at this time will return you to the MAIN MENU.
Once the automatic configuration is done, select INITIALIZE SYSTEM DRIVE from the MAIN MENU to initialize the system drive. For more information on initializing the system drives, refer to Initializing a System Drive.
