This drive can be installed into a computer system directly into peripheral housing or by using a mounting bracket. It must be installed and operated in a horizontal position.
1. Attach side rails to the drive, if needed.
2. Install the CD ROM drive into an empty diskette drive bay in the computer and secure it with the 4 screws provided in the kit.
3. Attach the power supply cable, the frame ground cable (if the drive is mounted using rails), and the audio cable to the drive.
4. Attach the other end of the audio cable to the audio connector on the host adapter card.
5. Attach the ISA bus interface cable to the interface connector and then to the host adapter.
6. Install the host adapter in an empty expansion slot in the computer.
If you wish to use an external audio system with the drive, connect its input line to the stereo mini
jack (line out) on the back of the host adapter card.
7. Check the following before replacing the computer cover: connections between the drive and the computer, and the jumper block settings.
8. Replace the computer cover making sure to tuck the cables behind the drives so that they are out of the way of the power supply.
Installing the Software
Before installing MSCDEX and the CD ROM device driver, make a backup copy of the original diskette using the dos diskcopy command.
Installing the CD ROM Extensions
1. Turn on the computer and insert the copy of the Library Disk into drive A.
2. Type a:setup and press <ENTER>.
3. The following message appears:
***************************************************************************************************
****************************MSCDEX SETUP PROGRAM ver. x.x*********************
**********************************************************************
This setup program will copy the Microsoft MS-DOS CD-ROM Extensions and SONY CD-ROM drivers from the
installation disk to your system disk. The setup program will help determine configuration settings for
your AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files and it can make the necessary changes to these files for you so
the Extensions will be loaded the next time your system is rebooted. You will also have the choice of
saving the new settings in AUTOEXEC.NEW and CONFIG.NEW and leave your original AUTOEXEC.BAT and
CONFIG.SYS files unmodified.
The following CD-ROM device drivers were found:
SLCD.SYS size 32320 bytes
Which of the following device drivers do you want to install?
Do you want to install SLCD.SYS? (Y or N)
4. Press <Y> and then <ENTER>.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions.
When installation is complete, the final screen prompts you to reboot the computer.
Emergency Ejection
The drive has a feather-touch eject button on the front bezel that activates the eject signal. When the power is on, the tray can be ejected by pushing this button. A pin-hole eject mechanism on the front bezel can be used to eject the disc manually by using a 1.2 mm steel rod.
A straightened paper clip makes a good ejection rod (approximately 45 mm long and 1 to 2 mm in diameter).
LEDs
There are 2 colors for the LED amber and green. Amber indicates that the spindle motor is beginning spin-up, confirming the disc size (8 cm or 12 cm), accessing and reading data, and playing audio. Green is used for all other operations.

Subchannel Interface Connector
A 10-pin male connector is used for subchannel interface. The subchannel interface requires its own cable and decoder, which must be positioned at the side of the computer. They must be connected correctly in order to operate an audio disc and send signals.
Audio Output Connector
The audio line output connector is a 4-pin male connector.

SLCD Interface
This CD ROM uses the Sony proprietary interface which is called SLCD (Sony Light CD ROM Drive). It addresses both the electrical interface and command protocol to the drive.
