NOTE: If you ordered your Dell computer with the Conexant SmartHSFi V92
56K PCI Modem already installed and configured no additional setup steps are necessary. This information is provided in case you need to reinstall or update the drivers for your
modem. Before installing or updating the drivers, please go to the Dell website to download them.
Depending on where you are dialing from, it may be necessary to change the country setting of your modem. Select the appropriate operating system for your computer and change the settings for the modem's dialing properties.
Win XP Home/Professional:
Click "Start", select "Control Panel".
Open the Windows Control Panel
Double-click the icon labeled "Phone and Modem Properties".
Select the "Dialing Rules" tab.
Click the button labeled "New".
Type in a new "Location Name".
Select the Country or Region where you intend to use the modem (in
"Country/Region" pull-down list).
Enter the "Area Code" for your location.
Select any dialing rules that may apply to your location.
Click the "Apply" button.
Now select the location name you just created (it should now appear in the
"Location" list).
Click the "Apply" button, and then click the "OK"
button.
Windows 2000
Click "Start", then select "Settings".
Then select "Control Panel".
Double-click the icon labeled "Phone and Modem Options".
Click the "Dialing Rules" tab.
Click the button labeled "New".
Type in a new "Location name" and enter the "Area
code" for your location.
Choose the country or region where you intend to use the modem (in the
"Country/Region" pull-down list).
Select any other dialing properties that apply to your location.
Click the "Apply" button, then click "OK".
Select the newly created location from the "Location"
list.
Click the "Apply" button, then click "OK".
Inserting the phone cord
Insert the phone cord into the proper RJ11 jack on your system, reference the
system documentation for the location. On systems with two RJ-11 jacks, one
jack connects to your telephone handset, the other jack connects to the wall
jack.
