Installing the drivers in Windows 2000, Windows XP and Windows Media Center

NOTE: If you ordered your Dell computer with the Conexant MDC  Modem already installed and configured no additional setup steps are necessary. This information is provided in case you need to reinstall or update the drivers for your modem. Before installing or updating the drivers, please go to the Dell website to download them.

Setting The Modem's Dialing Properties For Various Locations

Depending on where you are dialing from, it may be necessary to change the country setting of your modem. Select the appropriate operating system for your computer and change the settings for the modem's dialing properties.

Windows XP Home/Professional and Windows Media Center:

  1. Click "Start", select "Control Panel".
  2. Open the Windows Control Panel
  3. Double-click the icon labeled "Phone and Modem Properties".
  4. Select the "Dialing Rules" tab.
  5. Click the button labeled "New".
  6. Type in a new "Location Name".
  7. Select the Country or Region where you intend to use the modem (in "Country/Region" pull-down list).
  8. Enter the "Area Code"  for your location.
  9. Select any dialing rules that may apply to your location.
  10. Click the "Apply" button.
  11. Now select the location name you just created (it should now appear in the "Location" list).
  12. Click the "Apply" button, and then click the "OK" button.

Windows 2000

  1. Click "Start", then select "Settings".
  2. Then select "Control Panel".
  3. Double-click the icon labeled "Phone and Modem Options".
  4. Click the "Dialing Rules" tab.
  5. Click the button labeled "New".
  6. Type in a new "Location name" and enter the "Area code" for your location.
  7. Choose the country or region where you intend to use the modem (in the "Country/Region" pull-down list).
  8. Select any other dialing properties that apply to your location.
  9. Click the "Apply" button, then click "OK".
  10. Select the newly created location from the "Location" list. 
  11. Click the "Apply" button, then click "OK".

Inserting the phone cord

    Insert the phone cord into the proper RJ-11 jack on your system, reference the system documentation for the location. On systems with two RJ-11 jacks, one jack connects to your telephone handset, the other jack connects to the wall jack.


Uninstalling the modem

Windows XP and Windows Media Center

  1. Click "Start", select "Control Panel".
  2. Double-click on the "Add or Remove Programs" icon.
  3. Select the "Conexant Dxxx MDC V.92 Modem" in the "Currently Installed Programs:" list.
  4. Click the "Change/Remove" button associated with the modem chosen in step 3.
  5. After the modem is removed from the list, click the "Close" button.

Windows 2000

  1. Click "Start", select "Settings".
  2. Then select "Control Panel".
  3. Double-click on the "Add/Remove Programs" icon.
  4. Select the "Conexant Dxxx MDC V.92 Modem" or in the "Currently Installed Programs:" list.
  5. Click the "Change/Remove" button associated with the modem chosen in step 4.
  6. After the modem is removed from the list, click the "Close" button.


Configuring Windows for Dial-Up Networking

Windows XP and Windows Media Center

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Control Panels
  3. Click Network and Internet Connections
  4. Click Setup or Change your Internet Connection
  5. Click Setup
  6. Follow the prompts with the information from you dial up ISP

Windows 2000

  1. Click Start
  2. Click Settings
  3. Click Network and Internet Connections
  4. Click Make a New Connection Connection
  5. Follow the prompts with the information from you dial up ISP
