The Conexant MDC V.92 modem is compatible with the V.92 standard.
V.92 is a
standard that allows the modem to detect incoming calls while connected to the
Internet and place the ISP on hold while the user accepts the incoming call, "Modem-on-Hold". After incoming call has ended, the modem has the ability to
return to the online state and resume the Internet connection. V.92 also
consists of V.44 (a data compression scheme geared towards Internet traffic),
Quick Connect (for shortening connection times), and PCM Upstream (disabled by
default by Dell).
V.92 capability relies on support from the modem driver software and must
also be supported at the ISP. For "Modem-on-Hold" to work a modem-on-hold applet is
required to allow the user to make the "accept", "reject",
and "reconnect" choices. The "NetWaiting" applet is included with
your modem for this purpose.
