Turning on and using the speaker system the first time | Speaker controls software panel | Playing an audio CD | Playing a DVD | Playing a Game

Turning on and using the speaker system the first time

  1. Switch on your PC and wait for the operating system to load.
  2. Switch on the speaker system.

  1. The speaker system's volume control and mute functions are controlled directly by keys on the keyboard. The following table identifies the multimedia keys on the keyboard and their functions.

Identifies the Speaker Controls section.

Volume down button. Press this button to turn downthe volume.

Volume up button. Press this button to turn up the volume.

Opens up the speaker controls software from which you can access the other speaker controls not available on the keyboard.

Mutes the system. Press this button to mute the audio system.

  1. Additional controls in the speaker controls software. See the speaker controls software panel in the figure below. These controls reside on the Main tab unless noted:
  • Pan L/R - Adjusts the balance between the left and right sides.
  • Fade F/B - Adjusts the balance between the front and rear speakers.
  • Center - Adjusts the volume of the center speaker when in the 6 Speaker (5.1) mode.
  • Sub (LFE) - Adjusts the level of the Sub (LFE) (Low Frequency Effects) channel in the 6 Speaker (5.1) mode. The sound produced by the subwoofer is the sum of the Sub (LFE) channel plus the low frequency content from the other five channels. To adjust the overall subwoofer level, use the Subwoofer Level control at the back of the subwoofer.
  • Master Volume - Adjusts the overall sound volume from the speaker system. The keyboard's volume buttons also operate this control.
  • Graphic equalizer (EQ tab) - Divides the audio spectrum into 10 discrete frequency bands. Each band has its own volume control. By adjusting these controls, you can boost or cut the low, mid, or high frequencies to tailor the sound to your personal taste. If you have content recorded at a low level and just need more output, you can boost all the bands equally.

  1. The next three sections will tell you how to finish configuring your audio system to play an audio CD, a DVD movie, or a game.
NOTE: This speaker system is designed to produce the best possible sound in your listening environment right out-of-the-box. No additional equalization is necessary.

TIP: It is not necessary to switch off your speaker system each time you turn off your PC. The speaker system can remain powered.

Playing an audio CD

To maximize your enjoyment from the speaker system when listening to an audio CD, the Virtual 5.1 mode should be engaged in the speaker controls software. This will enable all six speakers to operate.

  1. Press the ♫ key on the keyboard to open up the speaker controls software
  2. Virtual 5.1: On (illuminated) (see item 1 on graphic)

Playing a DVD

IMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT 5.1 CHANNEL AUDIO: Not all DVD movies have or default to a 5.1 channel soundtrack. This is particularly true for older movies that weren't originally made with multi-channel sound. Be sure to check the DVD's Language menu and if a 5.1 channel soundtrack is available, select that option. Otherwise, the center speaker may not emit sound.

Your system comes pre-configured for 5.1 channel audio playback so no setup changes are necessary. However in the event you changed the configuration, the speaker controls software should be set up this way:

  1. Reminder: Be sure you select the 5.1 channel soundtrack, if available, from your DVD title's Language or Setup Options menu.
  2. Press the ♫ key on the keyboard to open up the speaker controls software.
  3. Speaker Mode: 6 Speaker (5.1).(see item 2 on graphic)
  4. VersaJack: Analog Out. (see item 3 on graphic)
  5. Virtual 5.1: Off (not illuminated). (see item 4 on graphic)

Your DVD software also comes pre-configured for 5.1 channel audio playback but it assumes you are seated normally at your desk, a typical distance away from your video monitor. If you have a 21 in. or larger video monitor or just prefer to sit farther back (>4 feet), you should uncheck the Listening within 4 feet of the monitor check box in your DVD software to optimize the center channel sound for this distance. Here is how to do it:

  1. Click on the Toolbar tab of PowerDVD to bring up the Configuration window. (see item no. 5 on graphic)

  1. Uncheck the Listening within 4 feet of the monitor check box. (see item 6 on graphic)

When seated normally at your desk, please repeat the steps above but put a check in the Listening within 4 feet of the monitor check box.

Playing a Game

To maximize your enjoyment from games and take advantage of the 3-D positional audio effects many games provide, your speaker mode should be set to 4 Speaker.

  1. Press the ♫ key on the keyboard to open up the speaker controls software.
  2. Speaker Mode: 4 Speaker. (see item 7 on graphic)

NOTE: In the 4 Speaker Mode, the center speaker will not emit sound.

Please read all restrictions and disclaimers.
